Bristol Paper?
« on: April 09, 2015, 12:41:04 PM »
Someone recommended Bristol paper for custom quotes and calligraphy pieces. I went out and bought a pad of white, 96 lb Bristol paper. I used it on my light pad which was great except the ink bled! Does anyone else have this problem with bristol paper?

I usually use mixed media paper, instead of Bristol paper. I've never tried Bristol paper, but my inks never bleeds with mixed media paper. A lot of people also recommend Arches hotpressed paper as well.

Hi Emily,
What kind of ink did you use? I use both Bristol and Mixed Media (as Alice mentioned) and have not had issues with either.

I used Higgins waterproof black ink and I think that was the problem. I used walnut ink and had no problems! What black ink do you use?

Thanks!

Bummer! I use sumi on Bristol constantly and love it. Give sumi a try and let me know if it works for you! Best of luck :)

@Emily:  "waterproof" and "bulletproof" inks are notoriously difficult to use!  They often bleed and/or eat nibs.  The ONLY time I use one of them is if I am sending something internationally.  I worry about the climate conditions on such a trip & usually use Noodler's bulletproof & hope for the best! :-)

Great, thank you!

So if it's not waterproof it's okay? I guess I am hesitant to ship anything that isn't waterproof.
