Terrible pun of the week
« on: June 03, 2016, 07:31:20 AM »
So I was thinking. Why don't we have a recurring thread that everyone can post and get cc on the same piece of writing. So I came up with something that everyone can love. Terrible puns.

From now on, once a week, usually on a weekend (but I had today off) I will post a terrible pun for everyone to copy down and post a link or upload their work. In any script. Either just as practice, for fun or to get some CC.

So hopefully I can get some people smiling and shaking their heads at the same time with the first one.

'The girl said she knew me from the vegetarian restaurant, but I've never seen herbivore.'

I don't mind if I'm the only one posting for a while but I'll keep it up, feel free to join in  :) :)

edit: If you want to post any of the previous quotes of the week feel free to do so. I just ask that you post the current quote of the week in the same reply and mention which one is which. Also if you would like cc please mention it.

I've bought my first dip pen 4 days before I wrote this, I'm trying to learn this tool.

What troubles are you having with learning it?

What troubles are you having with learning it?

Not necessarily troubles, rather learning curve.

  • Preparing the nib. It took me much longer than I expected to remove protective grease coat using ethanol and wipes.
  • Broad-edged dip pens are much sharper than italic fountain pens. I'm learning to keep them even more parallel to paper and use softer touch on holder.
  • Broad-edged dip pens make it harder to use push strokes, I'm switching my formal italic to ductus without push strokes.
  • I'm not using proper calligraphy ink as of yet. I'm using up accumulated reserves of ink from my drawers.

got any walnut ink by any chance? You can use in in the fountain pens if you wish and it's great for sharp lines. I've only recently started foundational but I've been using walnut ink with a 3mm brause nib and its been working fine.

This weeks terrible pun of the week is

"My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got canned. Couldn't concentrate"

My own self analysis is. Terrible majuscules, all three. M doesn't have even space within the letter. I's hairline isn't fine enough. C.... I dont even know what happened there.
The varying height of my ascenders is getting better but descenders are still all over the place. Also I've gone back to having shade variation on longer strokes like t and d which is annoying. I thought that was getting better.

Just for reference I used a 2552, McCafferys red violet and rhodia premium lined

I hope everyone gets a chuckle from this double pun. I can't wait to see any and everyones elses calligraphy :)
