Hi Flourish Friends,
I am very excited to announce our homepage (http://theflourishforum.com) has a new look! Since Flourish is in its fourth year, I thought it was time for a website update. I have completely re-designed the Flourish site with some great new additions, including a new logo.
We now have an extensive FAQ page (http://www.theflourishforum.com/faq/). The forum has almost 70,000 posts! So new members frequently ask the same questions. We can now refer people to the FAQ page for all of the most popular topics.
Likewise, the new homepage has links to our most popular threads. And, there is a new Books & Supplies (http://www.theflourishforum.com/supply-resources/) page which links to our favorite vendors and Flourish's recommended books and supplies on Amazon (http://astore.amazon.com/theflofor-20). These links are affiliate links which help support the forum and keep it free for our members.
I hope you find these updates useful. I know it will save a great deal of time and help organize and make the enormous amount of calligraphy information we share more easily accessible.
Stay tuned for more news about our new look!
And as always, your feedback, suggestions, and comments are always welcome! ;D

The new logo is very swish, Erica. It certainly jumped straight out at me. The other developments are all welcome and should make it much easier for new arrivals to find their way about. Thanks as ever for all your hard work. :)

Oh, I love it, I love it so much! So effortlessly* graceful and organised. The FAQ will be a gift to people.
*hah - as if anything that looks THAT good came without effort! but you make it LOOK like it did. ♥

The new homepage looks awesome Erica. I didn't even rezlize there is a blog, until now. The logo is beautiful.
My bookmark takes me directly to the index page. I found the homepage through the news link. Is there suposed to be an actual link back to the homepage? Once I'm on the index page, when I click "Home" or the logo, they bring me to the index page.
-
Thank you everyone for your very kind and enthusiastic comments! :-*
@darrin1200 This is a great question and one that @AnasaziWrites has pointed out to me as well. I am working on a way to link back to the homepage (and FAQ) from the forum. While they are both on the same site, they actually run on separate platforms (for lack of a better word for simplicity's sake). While it is easy to link from the homesite to the forum, it's a little trickier the other way and takes a bit of coding.
But, I am working on a solution. Thanks for the great suggestion! ;D
-
Thanks Erica, not problem. You are doing a fantastic job with the site.
I will just keep a separate bookmark for now.
-
awesome Erica it looks grrrrrreat!!!

Erica, beautiful! One could get lost in those loops. Looking forward to all the exciting things going on here. Thanks for all you do! :)

Erica,
Oh, oh, oh...I agree with all comments by others. BUT - those flourishes/designs on your uppercase W in particular made me literally gasp with awe and pleasure! You should certainly be proud and fulfilled with all that you have contributed, worldwide, to our art and body of knowledge.

I've been idle for a couple of months, and now I'm back and find this beauty of a homepage! I love it!!! It's organized, fresh, beautiful, I love the stamp links for social networks, and it has hydrangeas on it (my fave flowers).. It's perfect Erica, hooray!
Looking forward to continuing my practice and sharing this space with all the great people here in the forum.

-
Jaw dropper Erica! Love it!!!
-
Wow! It's all so beautiful, Erica, I don't even know what to say! Elegantly done and very clearly organized, it's everything a homepage should be. It has a wonderful lightness to it all and the images are so gorgeous, it makes me feel happy and calm just to look at it. And is that heart tag made of fabric? Did you do that beautiful script on fabric?! Swoon! The postage stamp social media links are so inspired, I almost died when I saw them. Okay, I'll stop gushing now, but seriously, it is just so beautifully done and such a nice treat to come back to the forum after a long absence and see such a lovely change in the forum's public face.
-
Thank you to everyone for all of the lovely comments!
Yes, @Elisabeth_M It is on fabric but I cheated... I printed it onto muslin fabric using butcher's paper (you iron the fabric onto it and then can print on it). It worked surprisingly well!
I was pretty tickled with myself when I made the postage stamp social media links! LOL! So I am very happy they are so well received. Thanks so much for the awesome feedback! ;D
-
@Erica McPhee--The butcher paper trick isn't cheating, it's genius! I have to try it myself, now!
-
Hi Erica,
Is there a way to get an app for this site? How cool to just open my computer and just hit and App and zoom... your there.
Ah, I really watch a lot of star-trek......
is it hard to develope one?.... Elizabeth Gadus
-
@Erica McPhee Omg, looooove the new home page design! And the social media icons as stamps, so clever, Erica! Happy to hear you're home safe and sound. Sending positive vibes to you and your fellow Floridians who have a long road of recovery ahead. <3
-
Thanks Janice! ;D
Elizabeth, I do not think it is an option right now. I know some folks have paid developers to try to convert their own forums into an app but as far as I know, there is no universal app for an SMF forum right now (the version we use). :-[
-
@Erica McPhee - SMF is compatible with Tapatalk which allows a much improved forum experience on mobile devices where browser based forum software is hard to use. The instructions for installing the Tapatalk package for SMF can be found here: https://www.tapatalk.com/download_SimpleMachines.php (https://www.tapatalk.com/download_SimpleMachines.php)
It is not an app on a computer though so doesn't satisfy the requirement from @Elizgadus59 :-)

Thanks Salman! I wondered about Tapatalk! Will investigate! :-*
-
Thanks, Erica, everything looks great!

Tapatalk can be aggressive tho. I don’t know if that’s an option that you can turn off. I just straight up won’t go to some sites with it because every time you change pages while on mobile it’s giving you another pop up insisting you use tapatalk that you have to click no to before you can keep doing what you were doing.
-
@Jamie Can you tell me more about that because I deleted all chat functions a long time ago and should not have Tapatalk active. Are you seeing that now?
-
No not at all! I totally missed the date on some of the posts and didn’t realize only the most recent one was actually recent. Never mind me!
-
LOL! OK, thank you! ;D
