ATTN: SIGN UPS ARE CLOSED! All participants should be getting a PM from me with the addresses of the people in their group by midnight today (July 29) PDT
Any interest in a broad edge pen exchange? Your choice of hand, of course, and newbies would be welcome. I was thinking maybe postcards? Is anyone up for that? If so, I'd be willing to organize it.
ETA:
Looks like this is a go so here are the parameters
- Sign ups for the exchange will close July 27
- Please PM your address to me before July 30 (I will be out of town Aug. 1-9, and I want to be sure I assign groups and send addresses before I leave)
- Deadline for sending your exchange items to your group will be Sept. 1
- Each person will be given a list of no more than 7 people to which you will send your exchange items
- We will be sending postcards as the exchange item
- On the postcard, please calligraph your favorite word, phrase, or quote (please use your best judgement about what might be considered "appropriate")
- The word, phrase, or quote may be in any language, although you might consider including an English translation if you don't know if the recipient speaks that language
- Type of calligraphy is sender's choice so long as it is done with a broad nib/pen
- The postcard may be handmade with your word, etc. on the front as decoration (or however else you would like to decorate it) or it can be store bought with the word., etc. in the message

I'd be interested in that.

Oh, go on then :)
-
I am in if the deadline isn't before the 25th of August :-)

Yes, please. :)
-
....and not too many in the exchange group, I get very dispirited if the number is greater than seven...
-
I'm up for it!!

No problem there! This is my first time organizing a swap, so I'm not sure what the usual procedure is, but here's what I'm thinking: I'll wait a week for people to express interest, then I'll need to get everyone's address, assign groups, and PM the addresses around. I don't want people to feel really rushed, so they'll have a month to send after getting the addresses for their group. Does that sound about right?

Yes, I think it would get tedious making more than 7 of the same thing. Too much like work! :)

Count me in! :)

This sounds great Elisabeth.

Im interested!

I put a participant list in the first post of this thread and will add to it as needed. Let me know if I somehow missed you!
-
Ok! I'm in! It's so much time since my last letter! ;D
-
Are you going to set a theme or give some sort of guidelines, Elisabeth? I find it useful to have a bit of a nudge ... cuts down on time spent staring at a blank sheet of paper. :)
-
I'd like to join... I need to improve on my broad pen :-\

Is "postcard" too general? If so, how about postcard including your favorite word, phrase, or quote? The postcard could be handmade and the calligraphy on the front as the design, or it could be store bought with the calligraphy as the message. Does that work?
-
I can probably come up with something. Thanks Elisabeth.
-
I am so busy, but I loved the last broad pen exchange Linda hosted. It is so cool to see them arrive in my hands.
Me too then. Do I need to message you?
-
I've modified the OP to include the details of the swap. Assuming I get everyone's addresses by July 30, I will email you the addresses of the people in your group on July 31.
I'm so excited people want to do this swap! :)

Since Elisabeth has organised this, I think it's only fair that she should get a card from everybody irrespective of group.
-
Elisabeth, please count me in. My broad pen is atrocious, but I think this will be good motivation to revisit. Thank you for organizing!
My address is a P.O. Box, so I don't mind sharing it here. :)

In the mail!
-
Mine are in the post, and I've received Amy's. Thanks, Amy!
-
Mine went out on Saturday and I have received several in the mail already! I just listed to Michael Sull speak at a seminar at the SF Pen Show and as a bonus, he had a binder full of letters to and from penmen we could look at. It was amazing! Now, I want to start doing something like that myself, but I think I will use a 12 x 12 scrapbook album. A little less portable, but then I can probably put envelopes and letters on the same page. Anyway, I'm so excited to put these cards in as my first examples of calligraphy and penmanship (along with my daughter's name written by Michael Sull!).
-
I mailed mine out on Monday and have received cards from Janice and Ellen so far.
Elisabeth - what a great idea for keeping letters. I think I will start a similar folder/binder. I now feel like I should have put more effort into mine if it is going to be saved :-) I hope you like it though.
