Definitely helps me see how it works!
Though the Falcon may be a bit big, does the Hiro 41 and Nikko G nibs fit well?
Those are the two I use most with the oblique.

Hi Erica, Linda, Brad,

I would love to know what you think about the Blackwell plastic and hour glass holders.
I currently have the black peerless oblique holder and it is so hard to change out nibs!  On some occasions I've just settled for my Tachikawa straight holder because it was so hard to get the Hiro 41 nibs out of the oblique holder! 

I was comparing the Blackwell plastic holder and the PIA hour glass holder Erica mentioned from John Neal Books and PIA.
I love the idea of being able to use almost all nibs (except exceptionally larger nibs -not sure if I have them) especially the Brause EF66 with the Hour glass holder too but I'm concerned about the angled slant of the wood holder by the brass flange.

The peerless and the Blackwell plastic holder seems to have almost the same flat tip shape by the flange.  Peerless has no screw and the Blackwell does for ease of switching nibs.

I've seen Jim Vitolo's video on the hour glass holder.
Does anyone know of a video that shows how the Blackwell plastic holder works? 
Also, can a nib alike Brauss EF66 fit also with the longer screw?

Linda - your writing is so pretty!  I didn't know Nikko G's were considered on the stiff side. I love Nikko G's.  I am learning that I am a bit heavy handed.  I tried out Brause 66EF flex nibs and I loved it, but did have a few instances where the ink splattered. Maybe I will give the Esterbrook Falcon 48 a try if I ever get a chance at them!

Tools & Supplies / Anyone tried a Falcon nib?

Has anyone tried Hunt #98 nibs?  They seem to be called Falcon nibs too because of their 2 piece structure that makes it look like a falcon's head.  If anyone has tried this, do you like this?  What kind of nib is this?  Flex, non-flex, easy to use, hard to use?  I googled and can't find much info.

Hi Joy,

Calligraphy practice has not been as often as I'd like, but working on my capital C's and E's lately.
Toughies!!!

But finally the oblique holder, brause EF nibs and walnut ink arrived last week!!!
I don't know how you wait for your supplies as long as you do.
I waited about 3.5 weeks and it felt like a lifetime!

Hi Erica,

I finally got my peerless oblique holder!  And I finally tried out Hiro 41 and I love them both!
It took some getting used to after practicing almost a month with the Tachikawa 40 holder.
I love the G nibs but I see why you recommend Hiro 41. 

Thank you also for the walnut ink recommendation.
I find the walnut ink so much easier to use than Sumi moon palace when I'm trying out a new nib.
Is that weird?  And when it dries, it's so pretty.

Just got my inks, nibs and pens in the mail!  Unfortunately, the Peerless Oblique holder was on back order. 
I briefly got to try out the Zebra G nib with the Tachikawa 40 and sumi moon palace ink on copy paper. It was a pretty chaotic atmosphere for practicing with the kiddos around, but so fun to finally test them out!  Soooo much better than imagined. I figure it can only get better with the oblique holder!!!

My only consolation is all this great info and advice on starter supplies!

Ewigginton: Thank you so much for sharing this!  I have all of these in my supply list except the Tachiwaga 40 holder (sold out!).  Confirms for me that I'm heading in the right direction!
I was going to buy only 12 Hiro 41s (doubled Erica's suggestion) but now I may buy 24!  Haha.
And luckily it's not as expensive as some of the other nibs.

My concern was that since one was specifically "bleed proof" perhaps the pen white would "bleed".
Sounds like pen white also needs thinning so it will probably be ok?

Thank you for mentioning the distilled water.
I probably would've been frustrated regardless not knowing I had to thin them out!

I have 5 Nikko Gs in my cart from Erica'a Copperplate tutorial supply list!
Will just top it off to a dozen!
