Tools & Supplies / Lettering on various erasable boards?
« on: May 21, 2015, 08:23:43 AM »
Hi all!
I have had a request from a local business to write a menu on 6 boards, and asked to give input on what the boards should be made of. I have never done anything like it and I am still not sure I want to undertake this right now, but I still want to ask. What would you advise? I was thinking chalkboard, but I have never really worked with it. What kind of pens/paint/mediums are best to work with chalkboard? Any favorite product?

Or is there any surface that would be even easier to wipe and change? What to use to write on what? :)

If you have any experience with this, I would appreciate any input.

Thank you,
Marie-Eve

Hi Darrin, welcome! I am also in Ontario, South Porcupine to be precise. It is frigid here this morning, but hey, we have the forum to forget about it, right? :)

Coffee & Nib-bles / Re: What do you collect?
« on: February 26, 2015, 02:33:41 PM »
What a great topic!

Calligraphy: I tend to collect ink as well, but mostly because I like trying new ones. I would totally hoard paper if I could too. I have a lot of scrapbook paper and I don't even scrapbook, really. :)

Non-Calligraphy: Well, this might seem strange and borderline freaky, but I love to collect all kinds of things found in nature. The more tame stuff, seashells, pretty rocks, etc. I have a few bird nests, some interesting pieces of driftwood, beach glass, pinecones etc. I will also pick up feathers, and animal bones. My most prized possession is a deer skull. My brother found it washed out by the river while fishing and I had to have it. I named her Jane. See what I did there?  ::) I only collect what is empty/dead/picked cleaned if that makes it a bit more palatable.

For the more "normal" collecting, I really love vintage teacups with saucers. I have a couple old teapots with creamers and such too.

Coffee & Nib-bles / Re: If you could change your name?
« on: February 22, 2015, 08:23:35 AM »
I don't know if I would change it, but when I was a child, I wanted to change my name to Gwendolyn. Except I gave up because I had no idea how to spell it. (I was maybe 6?)

I might like to go by my middle name, which is my grandmother's name: Marguerite. :) I like my name, it's just an annoyance to always have to spell it when talking to Anglophones. ;)

I do enjoy all kinds of things where I can make stuff with my own hands. I enjoy sewing (no machine) and I guess I would put more time in my drawing and painting. (Did fine arts in University.) Also, I might just move somewhere where I can garden and grow things all year round. :)

What an amazing story! Her handwriting is so unusual and interesting! That pen with its history is a treasure for sure! And my goodness was she ever beautiful!  Thanks for sharing!
