Warm (and dry!) wishes for a safe return home! I had a few friends with flooded houses in Houston-- it's super weird to see someone standing waist deep in water in their kitchen. I sincerely hope you don't have anything like that when you get back, but if you do let us know how we can help.

Welcome back Briana :D
I just sneaked onto your IG page and its awesome. Vodka and pickle sounds interesting, already drooling :D :D

Hi, Ashok! Nice to meet you! Vodka and pickles sounds crazy, but it's really tasty. Kinda like tequila and limes!

Welcome back Briana! I agree totally about the black hole of social media....and it does so little to boost life quality...and yet we waste so much time on it. Good luck on that last exam! It's not easy pursuing what you are! And go strong with the exercise. It is the fountain of youth...and balances all the amazing food and cocktails out there :)

Thank you, Star! Yes, I definitely have to do plenty of exercise so I can keep drinking plenty of cocktails ;D

Hi Briana [waving madly from Florida]! Good to see you here again. Your pursuits sound gratifying and I am glad to see calligraphy as one of them.  ;D

Hellooooooooo, Erica! I hope you're safe and sound and return home to a home with little to no damage! It's good to be back. I know I've snuck on IG a little in the past few weeks, but I'm trying to be good. I'll see you around :D

Hi all!

I'm certainly not new-- I think I was in the first wave of members--but I haven't logged in for some time, so I thought I'd give a little wave to all the people that I don't know. *waves* I'm Briana, on Instagram as @PicklesNVodka  ;D I LOVE pickles, and I like to drink vodka while eating a pickle (if you've never tried that, you should)-- that's where the name comes from! That aside, bourbon is my liquor of choice. Doesn't make much sense, does it?

Anyways, I'm giving social media a BIG break right now in order to focus on a regular gym routine (hahahahaha oh I can dream), studying for my LAST licensure exam (my #RLjob is as a landscape architect), and devoting time to nurture creativity (knitting, canning, painting, and of course calligraphy). Mindless Facebook and IG scrolling really digs into that last one, so I'm picking the time suck that actually benefits me instead :)

Flourish Forum isn't really social media AND it helps with the nurturing, so I'll be around I hope!

Looking forward to meeting new friends and catching up with the OG's,
B :D

So many awesome places! I really regret not extending my vacation by a couple extra days!!
What time does it get dark in February...?

I am SO interested in the Botanical gardens. MAGNOLIAS! It's not too far from the Library and Legion of Honor too (thanks Bianca!). Unfortunately all three closes at 5-6pm and I arrive only at 2pm. I think I must make a difficult choice between the three.

I'd love to meet you guys for dinner maybe? Or you are free to join me at the garden or library so you can drag me out of there, lol!

Too bad you can't come up to wine country! I'll be waving to you!

I think we can train ourselves to some degree regardless of phantasia level. I wonder if I started focusing on people's noses that they would pop out more in my imagination given time. Even the calligraphy masters of old stressed that study was equally important as practice. I think the more we sit and stare at letterforms, the better we will be. Even if someone is on the low end of the phantasia spectrum, I think it's still possible, it just might take longer. The brain likely needs more time to figure out how to compensate to achieve the same result.

Very true! You can teach yourself to do most anything if you just put in the time and effort!
