Very, very cool!  It looks sturdy, too.  Your father in law's friend gave you a fine gift.

I use the large size dinky dip bottles all the time, as well as the wooden holder that they fit in.  I also keep 2 oz. size diced pimento glass jars on hand for sumi ink or anything else that requires a little more holding space.  John Neal Books sells 1 oz. glass jars, like McCaffery ink jars, that work well also.

Oh my, this is gorgeous, Bob!  Which white ink & nib did you find worked with the textured paper?

In addition to the above gouache advice, I like to cover my mixing tray with plastic wrap when I'm finished for the day, just because of dust particles that might settle in it.  You can either apply with a brush or mix a larger amount so you can dip.  Until you get used to it, you may want to apply with a brush, so you won't waste more than necessary.

Elizabeth, I'm a big Zebra G fan, but couldn't get it to flow either through the titanium or chrome.  I was using Dr. Martins copperplate gold & PE brilliant gold.  I ended up using Hiro 41 on Crane envelopes & that worked well for me, maybe it would work on an all PE mixture.

How many times is it possible to spill gold ink while it's sitting in a large dinky on the Speedstir?  I'll tell you!  At least twice a day.  And that stuff is too precious to spill, but I have a talent for it.  Toward the end of my last job I figured out (DUH!) that I could use my painters tape to secure the pot.

Jean, Elinor Holland might be able to help you, if you can figure out how to contact her.

I am fortunate to have a dedicated space.  My work room/office used to be part of a 1st floor bedroom.  Real nice for me, since the former owners had a wet bar in their bedroom!  This is about as cleaned up as it gets.  On the opposite wall that you can't see, I have a giant stand-up light table that I bought from my daughter's wedding photographer in 2009, used it once & now it just holds files.   ;)  Believe it or not, I'm most excited about how I rigged up an outlet strip with velcro underneath my work table & strung power cords through large paper clips that are attached to the edge of the table.  Yeah....it's the little things!!

This is potentially horrible PR for Target.  If I were you, I'd go to the store manager & say you're filing a complaint (or have your parents help out, they're great BTW) & then follow through.  Contact Target's corporate office also.  Perhaps even a letter to the editor of your biggest local newspaper.  Carina, how you were treated is so wrong on so many levels.

Hi all!  These are definitely meant to be funny & not especially thought provoking.  Everyone needs a good laugh & I hope they make you smile.  The first one is a quote from my daughter in law's mom, invoked at any & every occasion (Tombow black brush pen).  The next one is mine, repeated at any & every holiday to lovingly remind my family that some of what they are eating is not necessarily cooked from scratch (Crayola brown & red markers).  The last one is a Josh Altman quote from an episode of Million Dollar Listing L.A. (yeah, I'm addicted, Staedtler red & black calligraphy markers).

Now that I'm in my 60's, my eyes have settled into an interesting agreement with each other.  One is nearsighted...the other more far sighted.  My eye doc, who I just saw today for an exam, said I have the best of both worlds.  I can read & work on calligraphy without any glasses, however, the glasses are a must for driving, TV or movies.  Up until a few years ago, I was wearing multifocal contacts, then my eyes were just too dry & they were uncomfortable!  Now I wear either a prescription pair of readers for calligraphy work (& manicures!!), or the drug store variety.  Now my doc wants me to try progressive glasses so I can see close & far, we'll see how this goes.

I took a weekend Copperplate workshop with Mike through the Chicago Calligraphy Collective in February, 2013.  I learned so much & found Mike to be beyond patient & so willing to share his knowledge of Copperplate.  I have his handouts.  I'll email him & ask for his permission to share them.

I've confiscated my husband's Black & Decker Angle Pro laser level for dark or opaque papers with much success.  It's completely silent.  When I use it on my light table, I place it just to the left of my guide sheet, on a rubber jar opener to keep it from sliding.
