How do you hold your pen?

I've seen people hold their pens for flourishing normally like they do to do their calligraphy, I've also seen it done with a different hand hold. I've seen it done with both straight and oblique holders. Which is right?

The glib answer is that whatever works must be right.  If you are really serious about flourishing though, you should probably try the straight penholder / working away from yourself way of doing things, and give it a good chance before deciding whether it's for you or not.  Looks impossible to me, but it clearly pays dividends for people who pursue it.

Jacob Ira Vijandre seems to have started out using an oblique holder and pulling the strokes towards his body, but quickly moved onto the traditional method.  As you can see, he can make both work:
