Cards for Mother's Day [Modern/Contemporary Calligraphy]
« on: May 07, 2014, 11:27:20 AM »
I made some cards for Mother's Day and thought that I'd share. I'm usually pretty bad with the cards, making them at the very last minute and sometimes the ink is barely dry before going in the envelopes (oops!). Glad I took some time to make them a few days earlier this year.

Amazing what white ink on color cards can do! Super simple, yet pretty.

Ink: Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleedproof White
Nib: Brause EF66

Thanks for looking!  :D

I love it Linda. And I love the simplicity too. Often times we overthink it when really the simple is the most beautiful.

Thanks Heebs - there's just something about white ink isn't it. It really makes the letters pop.

Starlee, thank you so much. I very lightly sketched out the piece with a white charcoal pencil first, inked the piece, and erased the pencil marks with a kneaded eraser after the ink dried.

Linda, Thanks for sharing the process of how you made these. I love hearing from others what their process is. I also am impressed with the layout!

Thank you Roseann <3 This is about as "flourish-y" as I am able to get... anything more complicated, I lose the shapes and they turn into a mess  :-\

Thanks Moya, I had fun making them!

Suzie, I think Stefanie mentioned this on another thread - I have a graphic design background too so I tend to "plan" things out rather than just "make things happen." Maybe 30 years from now I will be able to!  ;D

Many thanks, Patweecia!

I also love them, Linda – these 'heart flourishes' in the descenders are so sweet :)! And also the puristic, clear colors!

Linda, I know I'm late on the bandwagon, but I was just reading through some old posts and stumbled upon this...you have a gift!!! I am in awe of all the different "hands" you're able to write in, bravo!!!! (if I were to get something like this for mother's day, I would seriously cry.)
