Thanks again.
For the L Letterpress, I need a die cutter that is compatible with it first?

Wow, Erica!

Especially the p-d connection is awesome. A unique oppurtunity to connect the words in such a way I guess.

Are you actually living off your calligraphy?

Hi everyone,

I'm curious - what does your everyday handwriting look like?
I noticed that some calligraphers seem to have really pretty handwriting too. I don't. :D
Show me yours and I'll show you mine :D

Thank you! If I understand it correctly, the Fiscars thingie is really all I need to get started (except for the plates and color)?

Thank you everyone for your warm welcomes :)

The workshop was really awesome, I had the pleasure to sit next to Estefa, whose Spencerian is already really amazing.

My favourites so far are the Nikko G and the Brause EF66. I just started out and bought about 30 different nibs to try, since they aren't very expensive :D

Hi!

Could you maybe elaborate a bit on the whole thing?
If I have no equipment at all and I want to make a letterpress card, what would I need?
Which machines?
Which attachments?
What is compatible with what?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

All the best,
Natascha

Introductions / Hi from Vienna!
« on: January 17, 2014, 03:55:10 AM »
Hi!
My name is Natascha, I'm 28 and I work as a graphic designer in Vienna.

I tried to teach myself some modern calligraphy without method or anything, just trying stuff, then I fell in love with the whole process and everything to do with it.
Last week I attended the Berlin Spencerian Workshop with Barbara Calzolari (where I met forum member estefa, who recommended this forum) to get some insight on the basics and to obtain some knowledge on how to approach this whole stuff professionally and methodically.
I learned a lot and I'm prepared to throw my whole previous stuff away (see http://www.behance.net/sisterofdream for some works that I now, after the workshop, find rather terrible) and start fresh. I'm starting with Eleanor Winter's book on Copperplate, while watching Joe Vitolo's videos. I'll try my best to get a grasp on that and I'll try to work my way from there. I loved the Spencerian workshop and I'd like to practice that, too, but I think for now I'll stick with the basics.

In the long run, I'm planning to sell cards and such on Etsy, because I've always dreamed of making stationary my job, and custom calligraphy is a perfect addition to that.

I hope to learn a lot here.
All the best,
Natascha
