« on: July 05, 2017, 09:45:02 AM »
Hello everyone,
I started my calligraphy journey with broad pen and then fell in love with pointed pen.
Going back to the roots is so exciting. There is so much more to learn and it wont be possible without all your support, help, advice and critique.

Waiting to hear from you all. :D

Kind Critique / Please RIGHT if I'm WRONG - Spencerian
« on: April 03, 2017, 04:16:10 PM »
Dear Forum Members,
I been thinking of starting this thread for quite sometime. For those who are new to the forum. I started my journey in Pointed pen calligraphy in June 2016 with absolutely no idea of what it is.

Many thanks to Flourish Forum for accommodating me and all my mentors and Forum members who are tolerating me for the past 10months with my practice drills and continuous feedback.

For the past few weeks I been working on Spencerian, and I have been experimenting with both styles (Copperplate & Spencerian). This is my first post with only spencerian which I attempted yesterday. I can see nothing but flaws and Im going to improve on them. But a humble request to Members on the forum I would like you to spare sometime and critique my work. As I have always said please RIGHT if I'm WRONG. :D

(I been referring to J. G. Christ exemplar in Ornamental alphabet)

Thanks,
Keep writing,
Ashok

Show & Tell / Birthday wishes and an excuse to pick up your pen again :D
« on: October 02, 2016, 10:10:58 AM »
Hi,

I was thinking for quite a long time whether or not to open this topic, but finally I made up my mind. Infact was searching if we had similar post but couldn't find any. Post a birthday wish of our Forum members in any calligraphy style.

So pick up your pens and start writing. :D
Unsure of whether this thread belongs in this category @Erica McPhee.

Thanks,
- Ashok

Broad Edge Pen Calligraphy / My affair with Gentle Gothics
« on: September 07, 2016, 12:18:07 PM »
Hi,

I need to confess. Sometime back I came across a beautiful broad pen script and fell in love with it. But then midway I got into an affair with Pointed Pen and you all know that part of the story. But today I found my old partner hidden in my calligraphy pouch. So what I did is cleaned it throughly. Filled it with Walnut ink. Decorated with flourishing again to start my affair.

So share your secret love story which you're wanting to say for a long time. :D

In Love again.

Show & Tell / Give your other hand a break
« on: September 01, 2016, 01:43:01 PM »
Hello,

Im doing an ambitious project for a dear friend of mine and Im burning the midnight oil for the last 4 days.
Blame it on my oblique grip or style of writing. I did something which actually made me wonder 'why not'
So after writing for continuous hours as I'm a right handed I handled over my oblique to my left hand. And I thought I should write.
It was a mess, but i loved the idea of what if you sort of give a break to your working hand and between the break train your other hand.

It was really fun. I knew what I wanted to achieve but like a beginner I couldn't achieve because my other hand couldn't perform because of lack of practise. But Imagine you training your other hand with the same motivation as you trained yourself as a beginner.

I have attached my first drill. And if you realise all of us would be almost on the same page with the non working hand. The very idea excites me.

Hope to see more of your drills. So lets give our working hand a much deserved break.

Regards,
Ashok

Tools & Supplies / Custom made Dinky Dips stand with Jam jars
« on: August 05, 2016, 10:55:31 AM »
Dear Members,

Last week my father-in-law got a nice mobile stand made by one of his friend who is a hobby carpenter. Made of pine wood which you usually find to pack boxes. Inspired by the quality and finish of it i gave him 3 jam jars, roughly 30ml each and told him to make me a Ink dip stand with an angle for ease of use.

After a week he sent me this. And its quite awesome. Its neatly cut, finished and polished. Hold my 3 jam jars properly and even have space down to keep other ink bottles. Great job from a hobby carpenter and without any reference what so ever. Im planning to meet him and get few more designs but keep it compact in size and with more jar holding options.

Im sure someone else must have done something more interesting than this. If anyone had done or have any ideas please share so that everyone can be benefitted.

Thanks,
Ashok

Here's another one for the very famous, 'Mary Poppins' by Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke
Ideally it should be in one line but ran out of space.

Have a look -

Kind Critique / Please RIGHT if I'm WRONG - Copperplate
« on: June 15, 2016, 02:07:13 PM »
Hello Everyone,

Its been couple of weeks that i have joined this amazing Forum and its pleasure to interact with like minded people.
And today after downloading Erica's drill sheet (thanks to @prasad for helping me find out) for me it was quite a productive day.
I just finished 7 worksheets of Drills and here it is for every one to comment and Criticise and help me understand areas of improvement.

Before i got hold of these amazing worksheets i used to write words, alphabets or poems for practise (which will be uploaded soon for your valuable comments) and today i realise how important it is to practise drills and improve muscle memory.

So don't forget to 'Right' what is 'Wrong'.

Thanks,
Ashok

Introductions / NAMASTE from INDIA
« on: June 13, 2016, 06:17:01 AM »
Hello Everyone,

I'm Ashok from India. I had love for letters from the day i entered college. I'v done my Bachelor in Applied Arts and calligraphy was my special subject in final year. But once i was out of college it took me 16 long years to find my lost love. Thanks to the boss of mine in office who introduced me to Pilot Parallel pens couple of months back. And from that day there's no looking back. I started looking at tutorials on 'YOU TUBE' and doing my drills. Thats when i accidentally got introduced to 'IAMPETH'. And decided to become a member instantly and thats when 'Evie Jones' mentioned about this forum.

I started my cursive writing with Willian Mitchell set with straight holder which i found at one of the art shop near my place. And also ordered extra nibs from Amazon. I been following 'Dr Joseph M Vitolo' very closely and use his guide sheets to practice. As few members have already mentioned the inadequate art supplies in India.  I have placed a huge order with Paper&InkArts which a friend of mine is getting from US this month end.

I wish there were dedicated schools here in INDIA to learn this art of penmanship. So here i'm on this amazing 'Flourish Forum' with such talented people from all parts of the world, special thanks to @Erica for accepting my request. I truly find this journey of learning very intriguing and the satisfaction of sharing what you have learnt. Have attached few of my drills done till date.

I request you all to please comment and feel free to put forward your opinion. You can also find me on Instagram, if anyones interested here's my Instagram ID - ash0kgiri. Hoping to have a wonderful learning journey with the Flourish Forum Family.

Ashok
