Nice post! Useful for me because I’m starting to venture into the arena of acrylic gouache 🙂

I LOVE this site!!! Just came across it via besotted blog! I was looking for something just like this a few years ago… so happy you made it happen!

I am a photographer, but I love to do calligraphy as a hobby and for my client correspondence. I have been wondering how gouache works– excited to try it now with the help of your tutorial.

Thanks Laura! We have something else in common! I am a photographer as well but gave up my business when I moved to FL several years ago. I checked out your site and your photography is beautiful! Thanks so much for your kind comments and I hope to see you in the forum!

I’m a new calligrapher and appreciate your site so much! I’d love to know what nib you are using in this video.

      Thanks Stacey,
Sorry about the video quality on this one. I am redoing the gouache video because the lighting isn’t great. Anyway, this is a Hiro 41 nib. This is my favorite nib, especially for beginners. However, lately there have been some problems with the most recent batch and they don’t hold the ink well. So I have stopped recommending this nib until I know the problem is solved.
      I hope that helps!

I’ve been loading the ink onto the front of my nib all this time…can’t wait to see what putting it on the back side does. Thanks for the tips!

Hi, just wondering if i can use oil paint as an ink?

      Hi Jane,
That is a question I have never been asked. To be honest, I don’t know the answer. I wouldn’t think so because oil paint is typically thicker than ink. But that would be a good question to ask in the forum as I’m sure someone may have tried it! 🙂
