Free Tutorial: Creating a Flourished Frame & Brush Preset with Calligraphy

I’m excited to announce this new tutorial on the forum. In this tutorial, you will learn how to use your own calligraphy flourishes (or the free ones provided in the forum) to create a flourished frame in Photoshop. You then learn how to turn this frame into a brush preset that you can use over and over again to create logos, gift tags, etc.

Free Giveaway!* Zentangle and Calligraphy Coaster Set

Zentangle and calligraphy go hand in hand. Naturally, since zentangle was created by none other than Maria Thomas, scribe extraordinaire, and her partner, Rick.

Every year I create a handmade present for everyone on my Christmas List. Last year I did homemade vanilla with calligraphed labels. The previous year I made these zentangle and calligraphy coaster sets. (True confession: these didn’t actually go to *everyone* on the list because they were rather expensive but quite a few on the list received a set.) I had so much fun making these. I wish I could find a vendor to make them less expensively than for what I paid as I would love to offer them in an Etsy shop or something.

In the meantime, guess what … I am giving away one of these limited number of sets for free! Between the forum’s opening date of 10/27/2013 until we reach 100 members (or midnight December 31, 2013 – whichever comes first), every eligible member who joins the forum will be entered. (*See Official Rules & details below.)  I know we can do this! Even if it takes us some time!

So tell all your calligraphy and zentangle friends – great things are happening on The Flourish Forum!

Truly,

Erica

I am really excited to announce our first FREE tutorial on the forum: Preparing Calligraphy for Printing. This 10 minute video gives the run down on how to prepare your calligraphy for either offset or letterpress printing. Including how to:

  • scan your calligraphy
  • do a threshold adjustment to convert to black and white
  • fix broken or weak lines
  • clean up unwanted pixels
  • remove the calligraphy from the background to its own layer
  • add easily changeable color to the calligraphy.

Check it out, let me know how you like it, and let me know if you have any questions on the forum.
