Hello everyone!
My name is Erin and I am sort-of new to calligraphy.
I have been a fountain pen aficionado for quite a few years and know a lot about that world and its tools. Calligraphy is really an extension of that for me and another way to be creative. I am most drawn to Copperplate styles, but for now I am mostly just focusing on my own style (which is Copperplate-esque) without being too disciplined in the "correct" way. That may come in time, but for now I am having fun writing beautifully.
I also have a question about nibs. I have a small collection of Brause nibs and a straight holder. I really like the Rose nib and I also have the little EF nib. I have the pumpkin nib as well, but haven't practiced too much with that one yet.
I also have a collection of the Brause ornamental nibs (the ones that have the flat circles at the end). It seems they have both top and bottom reservoirs, and I can't get the ink to flow properly to the flat tip, even when I remove the reservoirs. I did pass the nib through a flame to remove coating, but still no luck. I am using J. Herbin calligraphy ink, which also may be part of the problem, but I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong with these nibs? I tried researching this issue, but could not find an answer. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks and I look forward to learning from you all!
Best,
~Erin
