Tools & Supplies / Re: Recommend Supplies for Beginners

Hello Erica, Will sumi ink or walnut ink dry waterproof for addressing envelopes? I made a mistake and used Higgins Eternal on addressing an envelope and it bled like crazy! Would you have an ink to recommend? How about envelopes? I bought the Value Pack envelopes/card from Michaels and the envelopes are quite thin. Should I try using a fixative on the envelopes or just order some envelopes at envelopes.com. Need your advice! Thanks, Marilou

Thank you so much for posting these lovely photos. I'm so happy that you got to learn from Maybelle. I'm from Canada, maybe one day she'll come to visit. Lovely photos. Made my day!!!

Hello Roseann, How did you find her workshop? I was hoping to get one of her calligraphy kits through her Etsy store. Do you think it's worth the price? I don't have a copy of her exemplar. It's one I'd like to have. Does she cover a lot in her workshops? Let me know your experience. If I lived in San Francisco I'd take her class. Thanks!

Hello just wanting to share some of my Maybelle inspired modern calligraphy. Has anyone in the forum taken her workshops? She lives in California, but travels all over the world to teach. Tristan B. at besottedblog.com has an interview just posted on her yesterday. It's worth checking out. She gives you the scoop on her favourite holder and nib! Martha Stewart discovered her 10 years ago and the rest is history.

Show & Tell / Barbara Close Pointed Pen Workshop Feb 22-23, 2014
« on: February 24, 2014, 08:53:07 PM »
Just wanted to share a postcard made from Barbara Close Pointed Pen Workshop I attended this past weekend. First day started with learning Copperplate then Contemporary Script the following day. She introduced working with watercolour embellishments and using micro pen to enhance designs. By the afternoon we were challenged to put it all together. It was a fun day! One big thing I learned, you cannot learn Copperplate overnight! Just a note, I tried posting this comment earlier with the photo by an error incurred. Still new in the forum, so I'm still navigating my way around, so if this posted twice, sorry. Thanks, Marilou

Hello everyone, I'm making 2014 my year to learn Modern Calligraphy! I'm hoping to learn and share lots of tips from the group. Patience is a virtue which I know I'll need in this journey.
