i know there are rules for connecting letters in my E. Winters book. i have not committed those to memory yet. most of the time as i am writing a majuscule i'm thinking crap...how do i exit this...do i connect it...what's the next letter?! LOL!
I think with practice (and time), your muscle memory knows exactly how a letter should be formed, and you start to see ahead of what you're writing, rather than looking at an exemplar to see how an A should be written, and then move on to the next letter... so if you're writing the word "Calligraphy," you already see in your mind what the whole word will look like, rather than "Okay let me write the capital
C," and then after that, "okay now the lowercase
a"... it took me a while to get it, but once you do, you can tell that your writing starts to have a flow.
Everything is connected! I am not as familiar with Spencerian capitals (and oh my they are tough to master!), so when I try to do Spencerian, I feel like my writing looks really stiff. One of my personal goals for the year is to get better at Spencerian. Practice, practice, practice!
