« on: October 09, 2016, 11:56:07 PM »

My husband and I have recently moved to Dublin, Ohio from LA. Is anyone located in or around Dublin? Would love to organize a calligraphy meet up. Is there an active guild in this area?

« on: July 26, 2015, 06:30:53 PM »
Hello my dear Flourishers!

Some of you might know that I recently moved to another apartment (yeah moved again phew! atleast in the same city! :P). Hence I need help organizing my art supplies. I know most of you have amazing work spaces hence please help me out a little  :-[.

I live in a rental apartment hence cannot mount anything to the wall and cannot have bulk organizers either. I was going to start looking online and in stores for ideas, but thought I'll ask you all 1st.  ;D

Thank you in advance for your help!  :-*

Coffee & Nib-bles / Any Interior Designers here?
« on: June 25, 2015, 04:09:08 PM »

I was going to enroll in the Interior Architecture course offered at UCLA and wanted to get some insights about the field/demand in US/job scene in US as I come from a different background. Since there are people of various fields here in FF I thought I might find someone who is in that field.  ;D

If you are, then please DM me so that we can connect!  :D

Thanks in advance!  :D

Coffee & Nib-bles / Back after a short hiatus!
« on: April 17, 2015, 12:16:34 PM »
Hello fellow Flourish-ers,

I am so sorry for missing in action. My sister moved from Boston to Irvine too, so was busy helping her settle down. Plus a bunch of other stuff was going on. I didn't get a chance to practice Calligraphy at all for about 3 weeks!  :-[ :'(  Which is quite a long time. Hopefully will get back to it today. How have you all been? I missed logging into the Forum & catching up with you guys.  :-*

I have started working on a geometric pattern too (after a long break again  :'( ) . Done drawing, have to paint now. If any of you like sacred geometry you can follow the progress on my IG.  :D

I have also started making all kinds of envelopes & LOVE doing it! All thanks to the thread I posted on making your own envelopes here on FF!   ;D

Back to practicing calligraphy now!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!  :D :D

My Dear Penpals,

I know, I promised to mail you letters, but you didn't get them yet. Thats coz I have been practicing in order to write better..  :D
But....... I've realised that, it is a NEVER-ENDING process lol! ;D Hence I am going to start writing letters from tonight (if God wills :D). Its not going to be the best, but hopefully it will get better as time passes  :).

Hope thats ok with you guys! If anyone else would like to be my penpal, please let me know. Would love to mail you a letter  :D

Tools & Supplies / How to make your own envelopes and liners?
« on: January 15, 2015, 06:09:12 PM »

Paper source has templates to make envelopes (of various sizes), and liners too. I was wondering what kind of paper do you use to make the envelopes and liners, if you want to make them yourself? The liners can be made out of any kind of paper I guess, but need good paper to make envelopes, since it should hold the ink and not give any trouble.

Introductions / Greetings from Irvine
« on: January 14, 2015, 07:12:13 PM »
I've been a member for quite sometime now, but did not get a chance to introduce myself (Sorry! :P ).

My name is Afreen. I am originally from India and moved to US about 6 years ago. My husband and I are IT consultants (Business Analysts), hence we move to a different state almost every year :) We moved to Irvine,California in November and loving it so far! We hope to stay in CA for longer than a year. I have taken a break from work, hence I'm home most of the time with our little 7 month old Persian kitten Rumi, who we also call "Fluffy".

I have always been interested in art as a kid. After completing undergrad and Masters, I am finally able to take out sometime for art. Apart from English Calligraphy I am also an Islamic arts student. I am learning Arabic Calligraphy, Islamic Geometric patterns, Illumination and Arabesque. My other hobbies are photography, exploring new places and reading.

I attended my 1st IAMPETH convention in Aug 2014 when I was living in Chicago and was completely blown away! Amazing artists & most importantly amazing people!!  :-* :-* I had no idea that there are soo many wonderful artists! Rebecca Sinnen was the one who told me about IAMPETH and I was lucky to be able to attend, since the waiting list was quite long. I met Erica for the 1st time at IAMPETH too! Thats when I came to know about this forum and joined instantly!  :D

THANKYOU soooo much Erica for this wonderful forum!!  :-* :-*

Suggestions & Ideas / Classifieds
« on: January 06, 2015, 10:12:32 PM »
How about a classifieds section? I'm sure you all have a bunch of extra supplies that you would like to sell maybe?

I wanted to practice die-cutting, embossing, and letter-pressing techniques at home , as I am absolutely in LOVE with the techniques :). Can you please suggest an economical machine to do so? Since its Cyber Monday today, maybe I can get a good deal too :D I've never done die-cutting, embossing or  letterpress hence any guidance on that will definitely help! :)

If you live in the Orange County area then I can surely stop by your studio to learn from you too! :)

Thanks in advance!  :D
