Tools & Supplies / Bleedproof White Crystalized
« on: December 29, 2019, 03:53:23 PM »
I have had past bottles of Dr. Ph Martin's Bleedproof White form crystals toward the opening of the bottle before, but never anything this drastic and so quickly formed - it has not been very long since I last opened this bottle.  The ink underneath is still viscous, so the bottle has not dried out, but obviously interaction with air has somehow caused these crystals to form.  Has anyone else had this happen?

I was thinking of adding in a little bit of distilled water and mixing it up, hoping the crystals would dissolve, but I'm probably better off opening a new bottle.  Regardless, I am curious if anyone else has experienced this.

Also, you might notice a touch of green around the rim.  I suspect mold, even though it isn't a very "moldy" color.

edit: I am realizing now that, despite my efforts to use clean tools, it might have been contaminated by whatever tool I used to scoop out the ink - not just air.

Technical Support & Feedback / Disappearing Unread Posts?
« on: December 20, 2016, 01:39:30 AM »
Does anyone else experience disappearing unread posts?  Example from tonight:  I clicked "Show unread posts since last visit" and it gave me six threads (because, previously, the other 15-or-so disappeared).  I selected one, came back to "unread", and there were two remaining, which does not work out, mathematically.  Other times it's happened with over a page of unread posts.

Occasionally when this happens, if I've been very active on the forum, it'll show no unread posts, but then it'll show, say, five under "Show new replies to your posts."

No, I am not accidentally clicking "mark all as read" or forgetting if I've intentionally click that.

Anyone else?

So I was on the IAMPETH forum and ran across a suggestion from a member that someone wear rubber gloves when they start off practicing calligraphy.  Yes, I know, I could have asked "why?" then and there, but I didn't want to detract from the conversation, and I like you guys so much, so here I am.

What's the deal with the rubber gloves?

Tools & Supplies / Anyone heard Walnut Hull Oak Gall Ink?
« on: October 28, 2015, 02:18:53 AM »
I bought this ink from a local shop probably a year ago.  The shop owner, who I've come to know fairly well, and is a big fan of calligraphy, didn't know anything about the ink at the time, but I bought it anyway.  I believe I paid $8 for what looks to be 1-1.5 ounces.  Yes, the darling little bottle and label charmed the pants off of me, I confess.

Anyway, what's with this stuff? Does anyone know?  The first photo shows it unshaken in the bottle.  The second shows it in "action"- which is really unexciting.  After it's fully dried, it looks like I wrote this with gritty muddy water and then photocopied it.

But... the hairlines are so delicate!  This is why I need to get my hands on a legit bottle of Iron Gall, isn't it?

Has anyone even heard of this ink by this maker, or have any input here?  My searches have come up inconclusive.  I am wondering if I bought someone's kitchen concoction.  (PS I recommend clicking on the photos to get a true sense of the grittiness I'm talking about. I find it rather curious...)

(edit: I should mention that I did see a mention by Christopher Yoke about Oak Gall from a year or so ago- at least a shed of light! But I am still at a loss here)

Introductions / It's about time.
« on: April 10, 2015, 11:20:37 AM »
Hello all,

At long last, I've finally joined the wonderful Flourish Forum! What on earth took me so long?  I am eager to connect with, learn from and help others here.  I've been a professional calligrapher for nine years now, have been teaching for over a year, but still have so much to learn.  I'm excited to be here!

Cheers!
