Your Periscopes!
« on: January 26, 2016, 08:01:00 PM »
So I think I'm getting the hang of this. I'm following a few people on Periscope now - Nina, Joi, Masgrimes - but does anyone else here do calligraphy broadcasts? I'm loving the dose of calligraphy on my commute each day!

Mine is Moya, @maybeworthwhile @moyagraphy, but I'm not planning to broadcast anything.

I did one where I went through the process of carving a holder from a dowel rod. It lasted about 1 hr 40 min :-)

I am @smkhattak on Periscope.

I have an opinion and I'm not afraid to use it.

Maybe I will do the odd one about glitter techniques ... I haven't seen anyone else share my teacher's method of getting tricolour strokes from a parallel pen, so I could do one on that. But I think our broad pen audience is pretty limited.

Maybe I'll just point the phone at the desk and sing a little song ;)

I think David already has that part covered ;) But I want to see/hear your scope, Moya!

I've enjoyed watching scopes from Joi Hunt,  Nina Tran, Kei  Haniya, and David Grimes!

Sorry I missed Schin's!!

I'd love to see one from Moya, too! And Erica!!

My first scope attempt may be this Saturday afternoon during a workshop with Carol Pallesen in Houston.

Periscope is an iOS and Android app that allows users to live stream anything without much latency. :)

Hahaha!  Sorry, but I found that both funny and cute.  No worries, I am 51 and I got my first smartphone a couple of months ago.  I understand completely.

What we are saying is that you can watch a live video broadcast on your cell phone (BTW Youtube videos are not live, they are pre-recorded, whereas Periscope is live, like TV, if you remember that  ;) )

So for example, you can watch Schin live showing us how it's done, ain't that awesome?!!

Oh man. I'm a digital marketer by trade and have been actively avoiding this (help help not another channel) -- burying my head in the sand while on mat leave. Can't think of a better reason to join in now that I know what's going on. Folks, dare I say it, I'm @oliveandreid on Periscope.

I caught Schin's last (I think!) periscope on vintage nibs and really enjoyed it.  There are some very good scopes on calligraphy being put up; I haven't looked at other kinds of scopes much.

Sometimes I'll catch one live, but mostly I watch the replays.  Normally they're available for 24 hours, unless the creator takes them down early.

Yes, periscope is fun because as you broadcast, people can type in and comment and ask questions and you can answer (by speaking) in real time. A little tricky if you're writing at the same time, but it's nice to chat and get live feedback as you're showing something.

Another thing is the broadcast is then saved into the user's profile and viewable by anyone who can't make it for the next day or so, and then it is deleted. Which is nice because it's not 'permanent' like Youtube.

I'm still a beginner though and am learning more about it.
