Title: astrolabe

Merriam-Webster WotD (http://www.merriam-webster.com/word-of-the-day/astrolabe-2016-02-19)

astrolabe: a compact instrument used to observe and calculate the position of celestial bodies before the invention of the sextant

Critical analysis:
 * a has a sloppy connection on the hairlines at the top
 * s is too thick above the x-height, shade is sloppy where it meets the exit stroke
 * t's square top is slanted
 * r's shade is too tapered at the top and ink pull on 2nd stroke
 * o's shade is too thick at the bottom? and the a too, I think.
 * l is wavy on the shade at the top and the loop isn't very nice
 * a #2 didn't meet up with the i stroke very well
 * b's shade is too thick at the top & bottom, the loop is gross, don't like the turn, either
 * e is too fat, bowl is gross and exit is meh

But I'm still way ahead than I was a month ago! :)

Walnut ink, Hunt 99 on some $0.99 Tops paper from Target.

Let's not forget the positives: for example, the transition on the bottom of the t is quite lovely.

Paper from Target, you say?  Hmmm... {wheels turn}

Thanks! I was working on underturns all morning before I wrote the word. :D

Check out close-up pictures here on the paper: Tops College Rule Filler Paper (http://theflourishforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=209.msg56760#msg56760). $0.99!!!!!!! 175 sheets!

They also carry a notebook by Miquelrius that is $6.99 for 120 sheets and the paper is just as smooth as Rhodia and doesn't bleed. I'd say the quality is about 90% of Rhodia. It has an M-R on the front, with the R in a circle. Look for it! :D
