A Sense of Honour
This extract from page 60 of The Universal Penman was written by Willington Clark in 1736. and is my favourite piece of calligraphy.
Calligrapher Mike Moore (anasaziwrites) knowing my feelings for this work, kindly sent me this page from an early edition. It's the only piece of framed calligraphy on my wall. It is by far the most beautiful piece of calligraphy I've ever seen. Now and again I've received accolades for an example of my Copperplate writing and before I get carried away, I only have to look at this page and I'm brought right down to earth. This is quite magnificent beyond words. I was astonished to learn recently that he was only 19 years old when he wrote this. How is it possible to produce such a remarkably, mature piece of work so young?
