Instagram now limits 'public' viewing of photos
« on: November 20, 2019, 11:14:21 PM »
Greetings - I use to enjoy looking at the Instagram photos provided by many members here on the Forum. It was what motivated me to pursue learning, and continued to inspire me by seeing how different folks created their script work. Many also provide gentle instructions on their Instagram pages which is very helpful to those of us who cannot afford in person or online courses.

Alas, I have not been able to enjoy this lately and I just found an article that explained that Instagram will no longer provide unlimited viewing of 'public' accounts: https://mashable.com/article/instagram-requires-log-in-to-view-profiles/

I am not a fan of many social media and do not have, nor plan to create, an Instagram account. This is a personal choice and I know I will miss seeing all this work and instruction. That is okay, I still have my Flourish Forum!

I am not complaining; such is life. I am just making an observation and providing information in case anyone else has experienced this as well.

Peace,
Cat

Oh wow! This explains why I can no longer see things posted on Pinterest unless I log in on my computer. That is a shame. I love Instagram but rarely go on anymore because I see an ad every 3-4 posts so it is basically scrolling through ads. Additionally, they spy on me - advertising things I have just talked about like Fish Sauce and door knobs & handles. Seriously, no one will convince me they just happened to post an ad about Fish Sauce a few minutes after I mentioned I needed to buy some for a recipe!
Thank you for posting the article. I will try to post more images here at Flourish in 2020! ;D

I noticed this recently also. Most unfortunate.

Having no Pinterest or Instagram accounts, I've noticed this "editing" on Pinterest, too. It appears you have a minute or so, or perhaps it's a limited number of scrolls until it states you must log in to continue. To see more, you have to close the site and return.

I've noticed a decline in the work that is shared here on the Forum, and Instagram is not innocent in that trend. Maybe now people will starting sharing their work more here. :)

I had not heard about the log-in requirement.  Thanks for sharing the article.
