James, what is the size of the point on the orange BIC fine pen?  Have checked with BIC and they say they no longer make it.  Maybe I can find another pen if I know the mm.  Thanks.

@marilyns it says 0.8 mm on the box. I know it's not available in North America but I didn't know they've stopped making it. The one I have I ordered from Amazon was shipped from Korea.

Anyone practice with ballpoint pen? Nibs and ink are so inconvenient

Hi James,

This is just awesome. How long you been practising this spencerian? Looks like you been doing it for a while.
Im a newbie and just started with copperplate. But this is one of the script i want to learn and master along with copperplate.
Is there any particular tutorial you refer to while practising. I know there are a lot on IAMPETH.

Would love to see more of your work. Are you also posting your drills in 'Kind critique' section?

Keep writing,
Ashok

@ash0kgiri Hi! Thank you. I started calligraphy/penmanship late May 2014. In the beginning I was practicing from Lessons in Ornamental Penmanship by Bloser with models by Lupfer. Later on I would print out Madarasz and EALupfer specimen from iampeth & practice with that. But I would say the most used reference for me is the book Spencerian and Ornamental Penmanship  vol 2.

I used to have an instagram account and I would be lying if I said I didn't miss it. I'll try to post more of my work here on the Spencerian board.

@ash0kgiriBut I would say the most used reference for me is the book Spencerian and Ornamental Penmanship  vol 2.

(for those new to Spencerian, that's Michael Sull's book)

That's my go to reference book as well. In fact, both volume one and two never leave my desktop, residing permanently next to my lightpad. Would that proximity granted mastery, alas.

Do you have a favorite penman's style exhibited in this book?

I also really love Lessons in Ornamental Penmanship by Bloser.

James @himasf has Madarasz blood in him. Maybe a long lost cousin or something. Keep posting somewhere.

When I found the BIC yellow ballpoint pens on Amazon--shipped from Korea--I quickly ordered them.  I now see they will be 7 mm--not 8 mm as recommended.  Hope that won't be a noticeable difference???

@AnasaziWrites Love the Madarasz Washington and Rome pieces. The one one 329 is especially delicate. Also love the Courtney signature writing samples. I wish Lupfer was more prominently featured tho.

@Raayynuh Miss you guys too. I'll find some excuse to post my practice sheets here.

@AmyNeub Amy! *blush* So nice of you to say. Now let's delete it before other people can read it   :o ;D

@marilyns Probably even better but i'm guessing they're the same. Also the line thickness is finer than the actual pen tip measurement.

@Rednaxela wow, thanks. You're welcome.

I prefer the 329 piece for exactly the reason you mention--its delicacy.

Perhaps a Spencerian Signatures thread might be interesting. I'll start one in this section. We had an exchange of these, but haven't seen all of them posted.
