hello out there. Mine have been in the mail for a while, but, I've been racking my brain with Adobe programs to remember to tell you.  I have received about 2-3. Most of mine were from Europe and I know that takes time.

Blessings to all!

Hi Erica, it's me ... Elizabeth.

Just letting you know that I've signed up for the Christmas exchange and that I've left about 1- messages everywhere cause my computer is not listening to me this morning and keeps doing strange things.

Hope you are well...

For the longest time, I used Foundational/ Humanistic. It is so valuable and versatile. The letter face can be become delicate by elongating or fat and loud by shortening it. You can flourish it and make it fancy or keep it simple and readable.  I think I was born in the wrong century.... Although... I do love my scripts.

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Illumination issue.... Hellp Help!`

hello to all my calligraphic friends,

I've been asked to do a project which I need to get a bit of info first. When designing an Illuminated letter at the beginning of a piece, does the size of the illuminated letter matter in comparison to the test next to it? So, in other words, how much larger, smaller then the text should the illuminated letter be, or is there a size requirement at all?

You can always make your own with Goache. If yourn not familiar with it, it is a type of watercolor that has high pigment. This mixed with a bit of Gum Arabic and water makes a lovely ink. That being said, McCaffery iron gall inks is a big favorite of mine. It's got a nice color and darkens as it dries. Also you might consider Sumi inks. One of my favorites is Moon Palace. The down side is that you have to clean your nib  regularly as it can clog. But the color is rich and it smells nice too for some reason.

Check out : John Neal Bookseller and for a variety of inks including the ones mentioned above. Might also try Eternal by Higgins. if your ink is getting goopy try a bit of alcohol or purified water.

Hope this helps.... sorry for all the grammer mishaps.  Elizabeth

Confucius  say: It doesn't matter how slowly you go.... as long as you get there. Make things out of them. That's what I would do.  What Fonts are you trying to learn?  Which is your favorite?- Elizabeth

I love using watercolor ink. Sean, your right, the variations are endless. although.... I must say I do use gum arabic with it to keep the color bound together. Gouache is also very lovely, Higher pigment distribution.

i kind of like the Bouncy Scripts but I think I have developed one that I can use now. But, If I find a font that I know is well liked and I simply cant put a pen to it , it becomes a challenge. Im not suggesting writing it on every envelope I do , but I think the challenge , helps me to grow as an Artist and a calligrapher..... that' being said.... that doesn't mean that Im good at
