Thanks Wendy! Once you learn the basics, it's not too bad. But it really is a shoulder movement versus a hand movement. Also, it takes memorizing the flourish shapes too so they can be formed properly.

I copy some of the flourishes out of The Universal Penman and just practice over and over again.

At some point much further down the line, I may do a flourish online workshop somehow!  :D

I had so much fun doing this last night! I couldn't actually use a pointed pen as the ink would bleed on the kraft paper. So I had to draw the flourishes with a fine point Sharpie. (How did we ever live before Sharpies?!)

OK, I am procrastinating cleaning. I work better under pressure anyway!  :D

General How To's & Projects / Awesome tips for copperplate on this blog
« on: November 25, 2013, 06:18:54 PM »
My friend Maggie posted this amazing blog to pinterest. It has some VERY good instruction for copperplate calligraphy with multicolored examples. This is a "Don't Miss!" Thank you to DeAnn Singh for such an amazing share. If you ever have an opportunity to take a class with her, I would do it!

Tools & Supplies / Re: What is the L Letterpress

Sounds like a great Christmas present to me! If you get it early, you could do your own Christmas cards!  ;D  I looked at the Evolution Die Cut/Embossing machine and it looks exactly like the L Letterpress thingy majigy that I have. I don't know about the quality of how that version works. I searched but didn't find much for reviews.

Thanks for your kind words! If you decide to get it, let us know how it goes!  :)

Tools & Supplies / Re: Iron Gall Ink

Oh, I like the logo on the ink website. Walnut ink is my favorite. Thank you for sharing your experiences with the Eisengallus Tinte.

Yesterday another calligrapher posted on Instagram about her Iron Gall ink corroding her nib to the point it snapped after just a short time lettering. I searched a little more and found another recent link where someone said they had the same thing happening with their Higgins Eternal.

I wonder if there isn't something in the supply of iron gall that is causing the ink to be so corrosive so much quicker than it used to be. Hope it isn't something in the atmosphere!

I *wish* I was going to be there. I have really been inspired by Barbara Calzolari's work. I'm excited to hear all about your experience at the workshop. What a fantastic opportunity! Do keep us posted!
