That's great, Nadia! I'm glad you found us here :). There is so much to absorb here, but feel free to ask questions and use the search bar in the top right of the page. There's so much info here and kind people sharing their work and advice.

Watery ink will absorb into the paper more, so that's where the idea of thickening the ink helps. Thicker ink doesn't absorb into the paper as easily when you write.

For scripts like Ornamental Penmanship, fine hairlines are accomplished by faster movement/muscular movement when writing. But with slower written scripts like Copperplate, it seems like the harmony between ink, paper, and nib are even more important.

McCaffrey's and other iron gall inks don't need GA added at all for fine hairlines (in my opinion), but GA helps with fountain pen inks.

Here is @jeanwilson 's blog post she referred to above with the brilliant method of "guidelines" for writing in a book:

I was going to suggest what @Estefa did with Dr. Martin's Bleed Proof White and gouache, I have the same experience with it being more opaque.

I've had the same issue with pencil lines showing with some colors. I try to use my lightpad for drafting in these cases - do you have one? It might be worth a try. I draft on a separate sheet of paper and put it underneath the final paper, the lightpad allows the draft to show through the top page.

Very beautiful d regardless!

One of my favorites! Loved the torn edges of the paper as well. The whole design was so cohesive and unique - thank you for the beauty and inspiration, Erica!

So cool! Thanks so much for sharing @AnasaziWrites!

Sooo close with my guess, would have never guessed that was an F. Loved the little history lesson that came with this game as well :).

What a great way to be introduced to calligraphy. Sounds like you're hooked now :). I also love the smell of sumi, so earthy.

Welcome to the forum!  Your family and friends will really enjoy receiving your cards when the time comes. Don't be surprised if they eventually insist on them over store-bought, like my mother does! ;)

Haha Bianca, same here. I can't get away with store-bought cards anymore!
