Did someone mention Calligraphy and Lake District????? That has to be my favorite combination of all time! Boy do I wish I could attend this wonderful opportunity to learn. The Lake District is easily one of my favorite places on Earth.

Workshops & Conference News / Re: IAMPETH 2017 - Who's attending?

I'll be there! I have fallen quite behind on keeping up with everything here on the forum, but I hope a week with several of you will help catch me up on all that's been going on. For all those who can't attend this year, you will be missed. And @anam_t WOW!!!!! That is incredible that you can fly all that way for the conference! Looking forward to meeting you!

Oh man, Robert if that combo works you may be my new favorite person ;) Haha. I usually don't have any caffeine or alcohol when doing calligraphy as the caffeine makes my hands less steady and the alcohol....well I guess that does the same. But, if the combination of the two in the form of one of my favorite nightcaps does the trick, well I'm game to try.  Cheers!!  ;)

When I open a new tab I have a list of "Top Sites" and the flourish forum is always one of them. I click directly from there to the homepage & usually don't have so sign back in. :)

Oh my gosh!  These are great!!

Chantelle's is definitely my favorite!

Well you've just made my day  ;D. Haha, thanks so much, Elizabeth! It was a very pleasant surprise to see my name on the list for honorable mention.

What gorgeous samples - beautiful work!! This past weekend I was lucky enough to score a Michael Sull book called "Spencerian Script and Ornamental Penmanship Vol 2." at my local guild's conference in a basket of other lovelies for a mere $20 (I feel like that's practically thievery!).  Volume 2 is a gorgeous 600 page sampling of works from a number of masters. However, I read somewhere that Vol 1 includes instructions from Michael. Perhaps this is along the lines of what you were looking for, Sybille & Syed?

In any case, I am falling in love with Spencerian and am mighty jealous of all those who recently took Michael's class in Berkeley with Suzie's Twig & Fig classes!

I second Murph's Stamps, but another resource you may find helpful if you are trying to track down a specific stamp or Scott # is ChampionStamp.com. To search their catalogue you do need to know the stamp's Scott #, which you can usually find by searching for the stamp on ebay as a lot of the listings have the scott number included.

Oh, and your local coin & stamps shop is an awesome resource too!! They usually have bins of random stamps that they sell at face value. It's a fun outing if you just want to find some random beauties. I was brave and brought by two boys (4yrs & 2yrs) with me to one shop  :o ....but they were so good & happily watched some Thomas the Tank Engine on my phone so I could browse to my heart's content. The shop owner was really nice too and I think he appreciated how much excitement his stamps brought me. Letter lover for life!!

I'll be there!! Hip Hip Hooray!! Can't wait to see you again Debbie and Eunice!!! Meeting new calligraphy friends was one of the biggest highlights of the week last year so I can't wait to meet you others this year too! But, it won't be the same without you this year Natascha. I feel your pain with the airfare costs. International fares are crazy this year. Very grateful the conference will actually be driving distance for me this year.

Introductions / Re: Hello from Washington!

Hi Natly!! Welcome to the forum.  My fellow flourish forum friend Emily Coe (@wildeartco on IG) is also an architect/calligrapher and the combination of her skills is so beautiful.

Where in WA are you? My family and I are moving back to the Seattle Eastside next month and I'm SOOOOOOO happy to be a PNW girl again :).

Not sure if you're interested, but there is a calligraphy conference in Shoreline at the end of next month that will have some really fun classes. It's called Letters of Joy and it's hosted by the Write on Calligraphers Guild. Registration just started this week, so I"m sure there's still space in the classes.

Welcome again!!!

Honestly, I was pretty skeptical about periscope initially.  However, after the whole abc challenge and the INCREDIBLE tutorials that were provided (thank you again Joi, David, Nina, et al) I have come full circle. What a cool platform!!  I'm with others in that I am a total observer at the moment, but if I rally some bravery I might pop online eventually. I'm @bespokestrokes  :)

I will second that I use the Brause Rose for larger writing but you are correct that it can be a little tricky to get it going initially. I think I saw a tip from Schin once where she made a small stab mark in the paper to help get the ink going (correct me if I'm wrong Schin :). Anyway, that seems to help me. I like stiffer nibs like the Nikko G for really small writing.

I love me some beautiful dahlias!! And the punch of color in that heart will be great fun!  Out of curiosity, did you just see these listed on the usps website or is there another place to learn about upcoming stamps?
