Show & Tell / Special projects

The first of my four daughters got married this past weekend.  For a gift for her I purchased a journaling bible and made a quilted cover for it.  I then took appliqués from my wedding dress and attached them to the front.  In the front of the inside I added a page of craft vellum on which I had calligraphed their names
And that they were joyfully joined in the Holy Sacrament of Marriage, followed by the date, church and location.  Sprinkled throughout the rest of the Bible I added pages of calligraphed lines from verses, including the ones they had chosen for their ceremony. 

I was wondering what kind of extra special projects or gifts people on the forum have done.  Hoping some of you could share...

Copperplate, Engrosser's Script, Roundhand Calligraphy / s variation

I just got a copy of the Universal Penman and noticed many of the "s"s look like an f.  Many of them seemed to show up as the first of 2 double "s"s.  I was trying to figure out if there were any rules to when and where this variation was used. It seems pretty random... unless I'm missing something.  Just curious.

Everyday Handwriting | Penmanship / Autograph Book

My husband came across this old autograph book at an antique store.  The pages are dated between 1886 and 1891. Thought I would share... I think it is interesting.  Not sure if I did the attachments correctly... hopefully they will open.

Tools & Supplies / Homemade walnut ink

Hi!  I made homemade walnut ink yesterday from green fruits from my backyard.  I am happy with it... it writes well.  I put some cloves in it for preservative, but I was wondering if anyone has tried freezing it.

Introductions / Hello

Hi everybody.  I've been trying my hand at calligraphy for not quite a year now.  At first I tried modern calligraphy, but I have decided to concentrate on copperplate and italic.  I am doing this so I can get a really good foundation.  Both hands are so beautiful and I find practicing very relaxing.  This looks like a great site to learn along side other people doing the same!
