Hey there, Ruby!
Welcome to FF!

Well, as for the pointed pen materials, the nibs I currently used were purchased thanks to calligraphy manuals and kits and eventually suggestions by calligraphy teachers. Go to the materials section in the forum for more.
As for reference material, the Universal Penman engraved by George Bickham is great - got it from Amazon.

Bye bye!

Hello Erika, hello letter lovers!
Thanks Erika for creating such a great platform for people with a passion for all things calligraphy/lettering.

Let me introduce myself:
I'm Sara and I have loved letters since I was a kid. I still remember handwriting classes in elementary school and how excited I was to be able to handwrite something.
Growing up, my love for letters grew as well. Since the age of 11, I mainly wrote with fountain pens, always striving to have my notes nicely written. Every now and then, as a teenager, I'd write quotes in a script style (of course I had no clue what Copperplate or English Roundhand was) aging the paper with tea and burning the sides to give it an old look. I absolutely loved those antique writings and stuff  ;D.

Then when I was 19, I came across these manuals about Calligraphy that one had to collect every week and so I did for a while, I practiced mainly broad edge nib calligraphy but it was an on and off thing since University was my priority. Then, 4 year ago I changed career studying Graphic Design and my creative self was awoken again. During 2014, I started practicing more consistently and this year I decided to register in my local calligrapher's guild and immerse myself in this passion I had postponed for waaay too long. I am planning to make a living out of my passion. ;D

This said, I realized it is a passion that needs to be nurtured every day...otherwise I lose muscle memory quite easily and I'm almost back to square one.

So here I am in the Florish Forum! :D
I'll do my best to be present in this community and learn and share my knowledge as much as possible.
As far as calligraphy is concerned, so far I've worked on Foundational, Italic and English Roundhand but still, I'm in the process, it is a work in progress and there's always so much you can learn. (I want to learn as many calligraphy styles as possible :) )
As far as lettering is concerned, I love brush lettering with markers and watercolors, more illustrative handlettering, digitized and non.
Bottom line, I love letters in every shape, medium and form. :D

See you all around then! :)
