« on: November 15, 2020, 07:39:43 PM »
Our last exchange of the year - can you believe it?! Me either! 2020 was a bust but nothing says holidays like a calligraphy exchange!
Please note the short sign up period.

Sign up Deadline: Friday, November 27, 2020
Post Mark Deadline: Tuesday, December 15, 2020

Sign Ups are Now Closed.

NOTE:

- If you did not complete a past exchange you signed up for, you cannot participate.
- If you will be busy and cannot meet your obligation, please do not sign up. It is not OK to think, "Life happens" and not fulfill your obligation. It is OK if circumstances require you to send your exchanges late, however, you will still not be able to participate in an exchange until yours are sent.
- You must be a registered, activated member and you must have made at least one post, introductory or otherwise, in order to participate.

As always, the following guidelines apply:

1. Calligraphy should be used on both your exchange insert and envelope.
2. You will send a card to every member on your list (typically 7-9 members).
3. Must be related to the theme.
4. All skill levels welcome!
5. If you end up not being able to participate, please contact me ASAP. If you don't send your cards after the list has gone out, you will not be able to participate in the next exchange.
6. You must sign up before the deadline. No late sign ups.
7. HAVE FUN!

Hi List 2;
My  Holiday exchange is already on its way !!
Sorry...because due to aggravation of the osteoarthritis on my hands and fingers :'( now I can only do calligraphy with the ball pen and marker with a lot of affection for you :)
Happy Holidays !!! :-*

List 3 folks, apologies for my late exchange. With the snowstorm the other day, I dropped my letters at the post yesterday morning. Hoping they get to you at least before Christmas. Thank you for your patience!

Hello list 3.
Due to USPS Covid delays and a deluge of local election related mail, the deliveries of mail here in Atlanta have been erratic and in some cases substantially delayed. I mailed all the list 3 members an envelope on November 30 or Dec. 1, 2020, and have received just 4 of 8. The one to myself took eight days to arrive, and it never even left the city. I just received a card from someone mailed Dec 14--so 4 weeks for delivery. If anyone has not received an envelope from me, let me know and I'll send another, as the first is probably lost. Thanks.

Update:  I just received another FF card today, 5 weeks after it was mailed (thanks @nicole.t , very nice). The mail here in Atlanta is seriously impaired. I thought that would be a record, but no, I also received today a card that was mailed six weeks and six days ago, as well as two circulars promoting candidates for our Jan 5 run-off election. Talk about wasted money. I also mailed a package priority mail on Jan 7 for two day(?) delivery on Jan 11, which has not been delivered yet (in fact, I don't think it's left the Atlanta distribution center according to the tracking number). So, if you're mailing anything to/from Atlanta, expect delays. a serious SNAFU. Hopefully, this will be cleared up by our Valentines exchange.

@AnasaziWrites Thanks, I'm glad you received it! I got yours in record time - I think it only took a few days to get to me in central Texas. I hope they sort out all the mail business soon!

Around Dec 15th - there were 350 semi trailers full of mail here in Des Moines that were waiting to be unloaded.
I was at a post office on Jan 6th and they said it was down to 50.
So - the larger cities are probably in worse shape than we are.
I might cut back on the valentines this year - to give them a break.

I recently read a book that I really enjoyed:
How the Post Office Created America by Winifred Gallagher

There are so many ways that the system was interwoven with all the various components of establishing a new country.
It is fascination to note that most of the issues that they struggle with today
are the same issues that were around from the very beginning.

Some of the book is just dry history - but there are plenty of good stories about interesting people, dare devils, scoundrels, and heros.
