Completed/Past Exchanges / Re: 2017 Flourish Forum Exchange List
« on: November 28, 2017, 06:17:44 PM »
Hi Erica,
I participated in my first exchange this fall with the Haunted Hellos.  I absolutely loved it and was planning on participating in the holiday exchange, but missed the deadline.  It seems like I got an email when it was time to sign up for the fall exchange.  Is there a way to receive notifications about when the exchanges go live or is there some other way I should monitor the dates?  I don't want to miss out!!

Thanks,
Angie

I am still waiting on a couple from @Inked botanicals and @Carbear.  Hopefully I will receive them soon.  Since @Sandy_Odom received all of hers, I am sure I will.  This is my first time participating in an exchange and I have really enjoyed receiving everyone's beautiful work.

Hi!  It's been awhile since I could get some practice in with the holidays and everything.  I hope I am not too rusty.  I am so glad that you saw significant improvement with my last submission of the group 2 words.  I am excited to be working on group 3.  Thank you!!

Another try.  I worked very hard on improving the wedge shapes.  I also worked on the slant.  I am haivng a lot of trouble achieving the correct slant.  My paper is turned almost 90 degrees and I'm still struggling.  Any additional tips?

Thank you,
Angie

Not a lot of time to practice this week, but here is my second attempt.  I look forward to your critique.  I really tried to improve the wedge look on the overturns and the shading on the compound curves.  Let me know what you think.

Thank you,
Angie

I have been practicing more since my first post.  I also have been working to adjust my pen and think I've finally gotten it right.  I feel like it's had a positive affect on my calligraphy.  I look forward to your feedback.

Thank you,
Angie

Thank you so much for this tutorial.  I always thought that digitizing would be so complicated that I have been afraid to try it.  I think not being able to do it has held me back on a lot of my projects.  This was so clear and easy to understand.  I was even able to modify for photoshop elements.  I feel like a whole new world has opened up.  Thank you!!

@sarthina

I have been using a Brause EF66 nib.  I like it the best of all the ones I have tried, but i am still trying to get a handle on varying the pressure with it.  Sometimes I feel like if I put too much pressure, I am not successful at tapering the bottom 1/3rd of the letter.  This often results in me starting to taper too soon.  Still practicing to get it right :)

Thank you for all your help and advice on group 1.  I am excited to move on to group 2.  I will continue to work on the spacing.  I find it slightly frustrating that I started out with good spacing, but when I worked to adjust the consistency of the spacing, I started to get too round with it and haven't been able to correct that since :-\.  The good thing is that I know I can do it since I had it correct before.  I look forward to working on it along with the new learning group 2 will bring.

I also realized that I never really introduced myself on this group.  I have always loved handwriting.  I had a speedball calligraphy kit when I was a teenager and I loved working with it.  I remember making cards and poems as gifts for my relatives.  I got interested in it again a few years ago when I took a small course in more traditional broad edge nib calligraphy.  Though I enjoyed it, I started following some blogs and online tutorials and realized that the pointed pen style is more appealing to me.  I practiced with a really loose modern style and even did some wedding envelope addressing for a friend.  As I did research, I started learning more about copperplate and Engrosser's script.  I  love the order and rules that apply to creating something so beautiful.  I felt like my calligraphy would benefit from learning the foundations of these styles and that I would then be able to, not only succeed at those styles, but also break off and experiment more with looser styles of modern calligraphy.  I, thankfully, came across the Flourish Forum and was immediately pointed in the direction of your lessons by another member.  I am so glad to be learning from you as well as the work of others participating in your teaching.

Again, thank you for your time and help.

Angie
