Tools & Supplies / Re: The Ames Lettering Guide (tool)
« on: September 03, 2016, 07:35:35 PM »
I have tried the back of the notebook before. My cuts were not to precise due to a dull blade. I did not use it long. Now I just use a adjustable triangle for my angles.

Brush Calligraphy / Re: Guide to Choosing a Brush Pen for Calligraphy
« on: July 16, 2016, 05:29:56 PM »
Thank you Jean, yes my area is definitely a bad one. Funny story I called them the other day when I got home (my local post office) five minutes before they closed. She put me on hold and never came back, of course doing it on purpose. I held for fifteen minutes hung up and called back. No answer because they closed. I have complained before on my postman and the next day I had my City ordinance show up and wrote me up for several "infractions". Keep in mine that no one can see any of this stuff except my postman. I know it sounds like coincidence but the fifteen years I have lived here the City had never bothered me.  He called personally there is no doubt in my mind. In fact the head of that department has been on my property before and said nothing. Long story short I have to grin and bear it.

Brush Calligraphy / Re: Guide to Choosing a Brush Pen for Calligraphy

Has anyone actually ordered from Jetpens.com? I placed an order and had it shipped 2 day priority and it's missing in action. So out of courtesy jetpens sent out a replacement and we will see if I get it. I have said it before I can not stand the United States Post Office, I always have trouble out of them. Orders being lost or late. Happens more than you would expect. Anyhow I will never use them again. I will pay more for UPS or FedEx. But back to my question the only thing I do not like about jetpens is the only way to get in touch with them is email. Then it takes half a day or more to get back with you.

Broad Edge Pen Calligraphy / Gothic Fraktur Hand course
« on: May 25, 2016, 10:50:05 AM »
Hello Gang,

I wanted some opinions on something. I purchased a course for Fraktur. I have been struggling trying to learn it for years. I like this fellows style so I got it. Anyways one of the things he says to do is trace the letters for some time and then try on your own. Do you think this is a ideal way of learning them? I trace them and they look great. I try on my own and they look not so great. I just don't feel right tracing them. Maybe I have to trace them for a long time and get the muscle memory on the strokes, I don't know. What do you think?

I am going to give it a try. I thought about it last year but the gloves the store had were shiny ones. I just want the cotton ones. I saw someone on Instagram get some from a Church store. They were usher gloves.

After reading all of this I decided to give it a try. I myself do not like to use a guard sheet. I used surgical gloves. I wrote or drew one letter. I  immediately took the glove off. Did not like it.  When Halloween comes back around I will get some Dracula gloves from the store and cut out the fingers and give that a try.

Spencerian Script / Re: Spencerian Shading

Very interesting  topic!  I often wonder to the untrained Eye, the reader thinks that the pen is running out of ink hence the shaded strokes to the no shade

Tools & Supplies / Re: Broad-edge markers
« on: April 17, 2016, 12:54:38 PM »
I love parallel pens. I have them all. Even one is from the Japan version. For markers I use are Kuretake Zig. They will write on just about any paper. I personally hate fountain pens. To be fair any Fountain pens I have  purchused don't work well at all so that's why I don't like them. Just my 2 cents.
