Practice phrases?
« on: March 23, 2019, 06:46:25 PM »
I've searched the archives and found nothing concerning practice phrases, so I hope I'm not duplicating. But here's my question. After half-an-hour of push-pulls and ovals, I usually become antsy and want to write Words. What is your fave practice phrase that covers the complete alphabet?
I've found several:

Six jelly donuts for breakfast quickly zaps my willpower.
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs.

I had to stop writing about Jelly donuts and create my own (too-long) phrase, because … jelly donuts.

If you do a Google search for pangrams - you will find hundreds of practice phrases.

My favorite short pangram is
the five boxing wizards jump quickly
because you only repeat i (3 times) and u and e (once each)

My favorite long pangram is
zaner's minimum daily requirement for practicing is just five hours of blackletter and six hours of (insert whatever you like)
because it reminds me of an affirmation

Music my dear...

Start with classical music (Mozart, Beethoven, instrumental guidar, etc...) for the warm up (ovals, push-pull, etc..)

Switch to pop classical songs / country / etc... -- some phrases are zingers...so just be careful as you write, some phrases/reframes might get stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

@InkyFingers that is the truth! I enjoy instrumentals while I'm working at my computer. I haven't listened to any while I'm practicing those ovals and compound curves and lines yet. I guess I'm too busy focusing on the pen, ink, and paper to pay attention to my surroundings. I should bring my playlist to practice time.  :)

the five boxing wizards jump quickly has been around for a long time.
It was on a list of pangrams that my first teacher passed out in 1997
and she was passing them along from her early days.

Thank you, Jean!
Was this a calligraphy teacher? I enjoy pangrams after working on drills. It's like stretching, writing-wise, after sitting at a desk.

Only the "music design" and "glamorous aviatrix" are mine.  Most of the rest came from a thread on the Fountain Pen Network a few years back, and there are a few that I have seen since them.  FPN also had a thread on difficult words, which culminated in this attachment.

Hope this helps.

Hooray! I love that the jelly doughnut is one of your favorites (I wrote that one).
Six jelly doughnuts for breakfast very quickly zap my willpower. Note, that in order to include g and h in the sentence, it has to be this spelling: doughnut. And very includes the v.  ;)

My favorite (that I also wrote) is:

A joyful quote in calligraphy makes a mailbox dazzle with love.

I also like:

Teenagers quickly text funny jokes about dating, love, pop music, homework, & zits.

If you search “pangram” at the home page, there are a bunch of threads but nothing together so great topic!  ;D
Warm Regards,
