I'm developing a sudden love for the Brause pumpkin.  I don't understand how or why, but it's like it squares the ends for me ... I don't even have to think about it.  It's magic.

My forever friend is the Leonardt Principal EF, and very close behind is the Gillott 303.

I also have some vintage Esterbrook 357 and 358s which I'm in the middle of a sneaky affair with.  I just hope my Principals don't find out ...

And I keep a few Tachikawa Gs around for rough paper or less-perfect work. They're very reliable and unsnaggy, so I feel like I can use them even when the conditions aren't quite right - whereas the Principal and the 303 will complain and not work, like fussy princesses.

Principal and 303, like Moya.  I probably prefer the 303, but it can be such a troublesome wee beastie, so it's the Leonardt which is the default choice.  Gillott 170s are nice too, except for installing them in a holder.

My current favorites are the Hiro 41 and Leonardt Principle. The 41 just squares off the tops and bottoms for me. Wonderful!

nikko g!  and surprisingly now, blue pumpkin (brause)...i've had this nib for the longest time and it used to snag A LOT.  it even developed a bit of a rust at the bottom part.  so it amazes me how it works very well now.  no more snagging and spattering.  it's actually smoother on paper regardless of the ink that i use.

Brause 66EF and the Brause Steno (pumpkin) are the workhorses.... whilst the Gillott 303 is a diva, she is temperamental, and demands perfect conditions if she is to perform at her best. We understand each other.

My absolute favorites are the Brause 66EF, and the Blue Pumpkin.  They really make me so happy.

I used the Leonardt Principal yesterday for the first time in ages, I find it much better for sensible copperplate than the 303.... I like the 303 best for more variated styles.

To all who have responded to this thread: It's interesting to read the like and differences among you - like they say:" different strokes for different folks". If you want the thrill and smoothness of nibs you must try the vintage nibs if you haven't already. Of course the Nikko G, Zebra, et al are not vintage - you might as well be using the blue (not vintage) Gillott #303. Comparing these two-the Gillott #303 blue to the Gillott #303 vintage is like driving a Ford to a Rolls Royce. True! The comparison will certainly open your eyes and see a new and beautiful calligraphic world. And you won't be disappointed! Don't take my advice - the entire writing world can't be wrong.
