In the end, 20 inches as predicted.  I have to feel lucky after hearing of 30 inches elsewhere.

Jealous over here, seeing as I was in the "dream crusher" area.  :'(

Got over 50 F today.  Some melted, but it also got more dense.  Fortunately I finished my shoveling this afternoon.

and it is not just the snow . . . in the South it is the ice. It will warm up during the day and start melting, roads are wet, sun goes down and that turns to ice. Don't remember cancelling much when I lived in Chicago, but in NC we cancel (even church!)
good side - time indoors to do calligraphy!
I always thought the guilds in Canada turned out so much beautiful work because of their long winters. Now NC is getting a taste.
Stay safe folks!

 :o :o :o

You know, there's a lot of talk about how Australia is a deadly place to live ... but we never get the weather trying to turn us into iceblocks. Where I live the coldest it ever gets overnight is about 0 Celsius (32 Fahrenheit) - and that only ever once or twice a year.

Stay safe over there, you guys!

I am beginning to think I should have just waited for it to melt.

Susan! Those photos of the cars stuck in the snow are scary. Last Feb, my husband and I stupidly rented a car and tried to drive up from Raleigh to DC in a really bad storm (our flight was canceled). We saw so many cars go off the road, swerve and what not. We ended up stopping in Richmond, VA because it was not worth it. We definitely learned our lesson, despite being seasoned Pittsburgh drivers.

Ellen, alas, we missed the Dupont Circle snowball fight. We were trying to dig ourselves and our neighbors' out in stages.
If you're curious. http://www.washingtonblade.com/2016/01/24/hundreds-take-part-in-dupont-circle-snowball-fight/

1st photo: our sidewalk post-shovel mid-day Saturday. It was still coming down.

2nd photo: 14th St corridor on Saturday late afternoon. Don't these people look like zombies? People were walking on the road because sidewalks weren't clear.

3rd photo: Sunday, sun finally coming out but big piles of snow everywhere.  :o

Ah, this looks like what my home town Montreal usually looks like on a typical winter's day!   :D   (Except this year we hardly got any snow so far.  The Big One avoided us completely, luckily.  It actually rained here yesterday.)

Regardless, sending out positive waves to all the people stranded and shoveling.  Watch out not to hurt your backs!

All that rain really washed a lot of it away!
