Update:  I have a pen pal!!! Thanks to all who volunteered (y'all are brave souls, indeed!)!

Hey, Y'all!

I'm looking for a pen pal for 2017 :-). I want a fun component to my Copperplate Calligraphy practice that will allow me to hold myself accountable and I think having a pen pal will be a great way to do this.  Before volunteering, please read my entire post, I want to make sure you know exactly what you're getting into ;)!

Here's what you need to know:

  • When I first started learning calligraphy (you know when you're super excited and have no idea what you're doing?!), I had some awesome folks volunteer to be my pen pals (thank y'all, so much!). However, I was a crappy pen pal :-[ (I'm totally owning it).
  • This time around, I'd like to only have 1 pen pal (at least for the first part of the year. As my skill improves I may be able to add another). If any of my past pen pals are brave enough to volunteer again, I promise I'll do better.
  • If you end up being my pen pal for 2017, I will send you something every month. That means by the end of December next year, you will have 12 pieces of mail from me.
  • I'm open to having a pen pal from anywhere. I'm located in the United States, but enjoy interacting with people from everywhere.
  • I started learning calligraphy in 2015, but I still very much consider myself a newbie ;D. This year I really want to focus on my letterforms and technique. Here's a link to a photo of my card for the Halloween Exchange so that you can see what my writing currently looks like -
  • Lastly, if you are my pen pal, you do not have to write me back (crazy I know!). I LOVE receiving beautiful mail and welcome it if you're willing and able to commit to that, in any capacity. But, as I stated before, I really just need a way to hold myself accountable while rewarding myself for being diligent in my daily practice. If you're not able to write back, just get excited about receiving calligramail every month!

After reading all that, if you're still interested, please respond here so folks know that someone has bravely accepted the offer to be my 2017 pen pal, and then send me a private message with your mailing address.

Thanks, y'all and enjoy your weekend!

Welcome to the forum SJWD! So glad that you are here. You're gonna love it! There are so many great resources here and the people are super supportive. When in doubt, I highly recommend coming to the forum first before Googling anything, it'll save you tons of time and frustration  ;).

Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Hey Jodi,

I know you posted this a few weeks ago. I'm a newbie too. I just wanted to say for three months of commitment and no in-person instruction this looks really good. I hope you stick with it. If the work you posted is any indication, you're gonna have some awesome pieces of work before you know it!

@raayynuh, just got your beautiful envelope and lovely quote! They are a great addition to my Friday. They both got lots of "wows" in our home today!

Thanks Elaina for the awesomeness you put into these!

Malinda  :)

List 8, I dropped your letters in the mail today. When you receive them, please remember, "there are no mistakes in art" (at least that's what they say, anyway).

I have a huge amount of respect for every single person who decides to take on any of the exchanges! It's a lot of work, but it definitely gets the creative and analytical juices flowing. So, thanks to all you awesome calligraphers (newbies and seasoned) out there!

Hey Everyone!

I hope y'all are doing well!

I just wanted to post that I have all the Pen Pals that I think I can handle for right now. Thank you to those who answered my call, I am grateful for you already!

While I have all the Pen Pals I can manage, I know there are people still in need who are using this thread, please feel free to continue to post here to find Pen Pals. It looks like there are people, willing to be Pen Pals, checking out this thread; hopefully you'll connect with Pen Pals fairly quickly.

I don't know about y'all, but I am loving The Flourish Forum Community! Y'all are so welcoming and helpful! I'm getting great information, tips, and advice from folks already!

Thanks again!

Thank you Nica!  :D

It's been wonderful so far!

Hi Friends!

I'm a beginner in calligraphy and new to the Flourish Forum. I just learned about the exchanges (Thank you Chiarag and Sarah Foutz!), and am in need of Pen Pals.

I saw that at one point Erica had suggested possibly starting a thread for beginners to post that they're looking for a Pen Pal, so I decided to follow that awesome suggestion. If you're a beginner like me, feel free to use this thread to find a Pen Pal.

With all that being said, would anyone be interested in being my Pen Pal?

I'm located in the United States in the beautiful state of North Carolina. I learned calligraphy when I was younger, but haven't done it in ages. I decided to recently pick it back up, and I can use all the practice that I can get.

I'm looking forward to sending others, what will hopefully be, beautiful writing.

Thanks and I hope that y'all have a wonderful day!

C and Sarah,

I had no idea about the exchanges! You will definitely see me jumping right in.

Thank you for telling me, I'm super excited to get started with them!

I hope y'all have a wonderful day!

Thanks Judy and Lynette!  :D

Hey Y'all!

I'm sooo excited to be joining the Flourish Community!

I dabbled in calligraphy when I was a kid, but that was ages ago. Over the past year, I've been exploring outlets for my creativity and recently rediscovered calligraphy. I'm looking forward to learning the art form all over again and hopefully becoming pretty skilled at it.

It looks like Flourish Forum is a great resource with wonderful individuals willing to share their knowledge and experience, so I'm sure I'll learn a lot!

I hope to get to interact with a number of you throughout the forum!

Malinda  :)
