Coffee & Nib-bles / Re: Milonguera (Debbie Martin) (10/4/1952-11/2/2020)

Natascha, thank you for sharing this sad news.  Debbie was a wonderful soul and had such a passion for life.

This book is a wonderful read...
Calligraphy: How I Fell In, Out, and In Love Again
by Susan Gaylord.
She writes "Traditional calligraphy is based on principles and on consistency...In the beginning it was all about learning the basics and making my letters as close to the ones in the exemplars as I could.  Adding personality to my letters came later."

That hit home.  I have hemmed and hawed a bit on which bucket do it fit in, Traditional or Modern?  And then I realized that you make your own bucket.  Letters are yours to create however you fancy them!

Traditional, Modern, Contemporary (I like that term), it's all good!  Have fun and explore and learn and create and make your heart sing!

Oh NikkiB, part of the OG gang here (at least to me!).  good to see you!  ups and downs, ins and outs, it's all like riding a bike...we all riding the roller coaster of life (and calligraphy!).  sending you a smile from the frozen tundra bit of the midwest usa!

sorry for the slang...yes I totally agree!

Tools & Supplies / Re: Can you mix colors into Finetec Gold paints
« on: May 19, 2016, 02:47:33 PM »
i am working on some deep purple envelopes and did just this.  liquified a pan of finetec Tibet gold (this takes some time), poured it into a larger watercolor pan, then added a shot of pearl ex solar gold to boost the shimmer.  works like a charm and i did not add any extra gum arabic. hth!
