They both look great, Debbie. The most current is more technically correct, but I love the first one also. That doesn't mean you haven't improved -- probably more that it came naturally to you from the beginning. :)

Number 3 - current.

Nickki, I'm not sure when it happened, but I do remember a moment when your beautiful hand became alive and grounded, consistent and gorgeous.  For me, it's soothing to look at your work.

Alright folks, it's about to get really real up in here. I have dug up some GEMS for your viewing horror. If there are any children nearby it's best to protect their innocence and ask them to redirect their eyes.

Calligraphy practice circa late February 2014
Followed by some more recent stuff. Nevermind that the bottom envelope had TWO spelling errors. Hey, I said that my calligraphy has improved, not my attention to spelling details.

Thanks Debbie. I'm looking forward to my back to basics being over this time around so I can get back to my own style. I love looking at your calligraphy too.

Hi Schin,
Absolutely love it that you started this.  Gives us beginners some hope.  Practice and patience will give rewards.

As of now,  most of my before looks quite a lot like the after too.  So probably will post on here after a while when there is a discernible difference in the two. :D

Again, thanks a ton for starting this.

Thanks, Linda.  You're too kind.  Sometimes I look and don't think I've made much progress.  I agree with you about Elsa's style!

Fine peeps, here's my then and now...
I will not warn you about wearing protections, you watch this at your own risk!
If you follow me, you know that I'm posting mainly modern calligraphy.
As a matter of fact I've been seriously trying English Rounhand since only April this year.
I've always done more lettering than calligraphy. But IG together with this Forum pushed me to try and now... well, I'm loving it!
So, here are my first steps in my personal calligraphy journey:

From top: #1 is mid April, #2 mid May, #3 someday in June (didn't keep track of the date, sorry), #4 beginning of August and finally #5 experimenting some flourishing.
I'm easily distracted when I practice and I often switch from the practice sheet to a flourishing sheet that I always keep near me (strategy is everything!). So, when I get tired of writing the alphabet, I switch for 5min to free hand scribbles and I'm happy  ;D
I want to work to improve my Copperplate and I know I have a long path ahead. But the journey makes me happy and makes me discover things (also about myself) that I didn't know before.
The wonderful community here is helping so much! So thanks everyone! <3

Holy Cow, Cecilia!  You've been holding out on us!!!  I wish these were in a format that I could enlarge your flourishes.   :o

LoL... Debbie, you are way too kind! thank you  ::)
The fact is that I don't know how I did that... I have no consciousness of my arm movement, I just draw and sometimes it turns out being good. This tells you a lot about how much I have to practice and learn!
But thank you because your words encourage me to work harder (no way I can go for a Copperplate bootcamp like @Nickkih did though!) :P

Cecilia, I'm extremely entertained to see that you've been using your reference book as a source of text for copying. I did the same with mine.

Speaking of Copperplate butt kicking boot camp..... I don't want to go back 😱 I had a day off and I liked it too much. But I'm going back to get what I really need which is a good foundation for capitals. So off I go.

But schin this is such a great thread because all of us forget that we are making progress because we rarely look back. I think in terms of our calligraphy journey we should make it a habit every few months or so to take a look. I'm so encouraged and inspired by this thread.
