Tools & Supplies / Re: Colored Inks - What am I doing Wrong?

Like @Bianca M said, i add a little water to these inks when I have to use them. You do have to clean often as they behave like acrylic (FW is for sure) and will gum up nibs. I find using a Gillott 404 nib with metallic inks to be the most forgiving. Medium flex, not a super fine hairline, but the ink will flow better than with the g nib. It’s also smaller, so you’ll need to use less ink on the nib, reducing issues with it falling all over the place. If you add too much water, just add a little more ink until you find the right balance. I feel like I spend half my time doing this when testing ink. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, etc.  Remember to prep any new nib before getting started regardless of ink.

Warmly,
Kei

Hi Everyone,
I posted this to my instagram stories. One of my followers has created a free online guideline generator. It gives you tons of options and I really like the format. You can access it at lanquach.com/guidesheet. https://lanquach.com/guidesheet/

Hope you find it helpful.

I think the Zanerian Manual is an excellent resource if you take the time to read about each of the letterforms. I studied it extensively when I began formally approaching pointed pen scripts. I love The Secret of the Skills of Madarasz, as well, because he is my all time favorite penman. The book is out of print however, but you can find it online at IAMPETH.org, another good resource.

Warmly, Kei

This is my first question, just joined the forum. what a fantastic place! Still trying to get used this site and did a few searches. My question is: why do I have bubbles in my gouache? I have no issue writing with it...but the bubbles drive me insane. I'm using w&n designers gouache. Thank you for your help. Hope I'm doing this correctly.
