Copperplate with metallic inks
« on: March 19, 2014, 06:38:10 PM »
This was written with various Italian Maimeri metallic "inks". They come in powder form and are mixed with a little water to create the right consistency for use with a flexible nib. I've had them for many years and I don't know if they're still available, but I'm sure that there will be alternative products.

Wow, so beautiful! I've seen metallic inks in our local art supply store, but the thought never appealed to me. If they had a marketing sign with your work, they wouldn't be able to keep it in stock!

If my script is ever half as good as your, Ken, I'll be thrilled to pieces ~ no matter what kind of ink is on the nib!

This is beautiful, can you write the exact name of the ink?
I might try to look for them in my art store supplier since i'm in italy and often have to buy ink from US this might help a lot!

They come in little 30ml containers as a powder. You just add a little water.

Thank you very much, this will surely help.
Might I ask you if they're permanent or there is a way to fix them on paper for good? (Gum arabic spray is ok?)

I looked out a couple of pieces I did twenty years ago, and they seem to me, to be the same as when I wrote them.

I think that there must be some gum content in the powder, as the image seems fixed and resists rubbing off.

I've even used it on permanent, one-off artwork and on scrolls to complement gold leaf and to add another metallic colour.

I've had these powders for a long time and, if you have difficulty in finding them, I'm sure that there are modern equivalents.
