Thank you and greetings.
« on: May 29, 2024, 01:00:56 PM »
Greetings, I am Lacy, from North Dakota.  I have been enamored with calligraphy for awhile and have had an on and off again relationship with it since 2016.  Until now I have never stuck to it, leaving it when life became busy.  This year things have finally settled down so I decided this is the year I learn to write beautifully.

Until recently I have learned from books and a few videos online as finding a teacher is hard to do in rural ND.  I am glad to have found this forum and a community with so much knowledge and the patience  to share it with others.  Thank you for having me, I salute you.

Hi Lacy!

One of the good things to come from the pandemic is that calligraphers now have access to so many classes on line! It has really opened up the opportunities to study with teachers we may not have been able to travel to see. Definitely check out LearnCalligraphy as they have some great classes. Also great are: TheGentlePenman and HavePensWillDazzle.

Let us know if you have any questions as you continue your calligraphic journey. Welcome to Flourish!
Warm Regards,
Erica

Hi Lacy, welcome to the FF!

That's great that you'll be able to focus on your calligraphy. In addition to Erica's suggestions, definitely check out https://www.patblaircalligraphy.com/. Pat is the former White House chief calligrapher and has offered a variety of calligraphy and painting classes since the pandemic. She has a very down-to-earth approach to her calligraphy, and I think you'll find it inspiring and easy to understand.

Have patience with yourself, be proud of your progress--big and small--and enjoy the journey!
