It's called a Whopperplate pen. They are no longer made and were invented by Bill Hildebrandt. If they do pop up on ebay from time to time, they go for a FORTUNE!!!

Also they Whopperplate design is patented, copyrighted name, etc..... so don't try to sell them if you make them.

That's interesting!

And thanks Scarlett Blue for the link to that French blog, I'd never seen it before!  I just found yours too, and it's great.  Added it to my list.  :)

Thanks for that! Now we know what they're called, and what a smart name too!

A search for whopperplate lead to a similar custom made tool at the bottom of this page: http://www.reinschrift.de/019c0f981c0855004/index.htm

and another!

It sounds like you'll are referring to the "Whopperplate" tool made by Bill Hildebrandt. I just listed one on Ebay if anyone is interested. Purchased it in 1986 from Bill, still has all the small loose parts and instructional information included…used it very seldom.

Hmm...  There is something like that I have tried before. A "parallel pen"??  I'll see if I can dig it out!

Nicely built & demonstrated, by the way!
