Open Flourish | General Discussion / Help finding nibs
« on: March 18, 2019, 10:31:34 AM »

Can anyone help with finding a certain nib.

It's a Hink and Wells Co nib.  Queen Pen 2586. I have searched but I can't find any.  I know there are a few nib collectors here and was hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction.

I have attached a photo of the box, I would really appreciate any help finding some.

Thanks

Diane

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Hand carved pen holder
« on: March 11, 2019, 12:11:56 PM »
I made my first pen holder today after watching Salman's you tube video.

It's made from cedar wood, needs some varnish and a polish and it will be all done.

Quite happy with it for my first attempt, it fits my hand perfectly, but if I do another one I would use a heavier wood as this is a little to lightweight, I like a heavier pen.

Coffee & Nib-bles / So happy I think I may combust.

I have been coming to this site for a while now and feel apart of the calligraphy family here.

So I wanted to share our fantastic new with everyone..

A few weeks ago my son and his wife told us they were pregnant.  Yesterday we went to have the scan and found that our little grandbaby has company.  Yes, we were amazed to see two little ones happily playing together.  We feel so blessed, slightly overwhelmed, but truly blessed.

Coffee & Nib-bles / Can anyone help
« on: July 21, 2018, 07:11:38 AM »
Hi everyone,

Firstly, I have just started to learn watercolours and want to sign up to online classes.  Could anyone suggest a good one as there are so many out there.

Second, most tutorials recommend brushes from silver brush, I have searched for a supplier in the UK and found only one supplier with very limited stock, if any.  I when to order from the US and nearly passed out at the shipping cost, $60.

Can anyone suggest where I can get these brushes from without the silly shipping cost.

I have emailed silver brush for other UK suppliers but heard nothing so assuming there are no others.

Thanks

Diane

Copperplate, Engrosser's Script, Roundhand Calligraphy / Capitals
« on: April 26, 2018, 12:07:17 PM »

Does anyone know where I could find the capital copperplate alphabet that is broken down in to stokes.

I'm still in the process of learning the stokes of lowercase, and I am following Salmans tutorial.  I would like to start learning capitals too, but I don't seem to be able to find any exemplars that have all the different stokes for the capitals, just the letters themselves.

Would appreciate if anyone has or knows where I could find something like this.

Thanks

Diane

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Help Needed -New Pen Holder
« on: February 27, 2018, 08:46:24 AM »
Hi,

I have decided that after all my hard work practicing copperplate I should treat myself to a new fancy oblique holder.

I have a wish list of pens that is so long it will take me a lifetime to collect.  Each time I search for pens I am like a kiddie in a sweet shop, so excited that I want all of them.  I can't wait to get started collecting.

I want to start my collection with a really nice pen but have have no idea which would be best for a beginner.  I dont want to buy a holder (given the expence) and find it is no good for the level I am at.  At the moment I  am using a cheap holder that I bought from China and given the quality of it, it wont last much longer.

Any advice as to what I should be looking for would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Diane

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Resizing

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the site and following Salmans tutorial, but I am having problems resizing my images to post.

I have tried scanning and also taking a photo on my iPad but when I try to post it tells me the file is to big.

Can anyone help with making the file smaller.

Thanks

Diane

Hi everyone,

After a few stressful months at the end of last year I needed a distraction.  Calligraphy was the answer.

I decided to try copperplate and have been really enjoying it, it's so peaceful and calming.

I have been practising the strokes most days and now feel brave enough to try to put the letter together.

I would be very grateful if anyone could offer me some feed back, I am using a book by Eleanor Winters as reference, but Even though I know some of where I'm going wrong, an opinion and advice from others would be very helpful.

This is my attempt and joining the letters.

Thank you in advance

Diane
