An ad for fish sauce sure doesn't sound random, Erica.

Have you ever had the experience of following someone you would never have followed? It's happened to me a couple of times. They come up on my feed as people I follow. I check their account and it's completely irrelevant to me and I would never have followed them out of my own volition. It's happened more than a few times, so I don't think I mistakenly added them.

Gesso is definitely firmer and will stand up to being between pages than miniatum. Given that the size of your book isn't that large, I think gesso should work fine for your needs. Think of the old days where books and bibles were gilded. These were all done using gesso, not miniatum.

I'm not familiar with the brand of gesso you're using, but I wouldn't mix that gesso with miniatum. I suspect that chemically they wouldn't play well together. Why don't you just go with one or the other?

Favorite Resources / Supplies in Italy
« on: July 09, 2017, 09:43:11 AM »
Hi! I wonder if my friends from Italy can help me out. Where would I be able to find calligraphy and art supplies in Venice and Florence? I'm thinking of vintage nibs, handmade papers, inks etc. Or are there any must-visit art supplies stores and museums? Thanks.

I'm trying to choose what to learn next too. I love uncials precisely because they're so medieval. I'm also enthralled by blackletter and gothicized italics.

I like Arabic gold, Pearl gold and moon gold. Arabic gold is the richest of the lot while moon and pearl are paler.

I am curious to know what everyone's technique is for mixing water with the Finetecs?
I have been just adding a few drops of water and stirring it up with a toothpick...
Is this what I'm supposed to do?  I've been able to get some nice results so far but
don't know if I am putting in too much or too little water....
Sometimes the ink flows, sometimes it doesn't.....

You add water and stir it up with a paintbrush. Then load the paint on the underside of your nib. If it doesn't flow well, it's probably too dry. Add more water.
