Great quote and execution, Ken!

Good questions.  My instructor back in KC would shudder when anyone brought up a comparison of the "new" freehand calligraphy styles to copperplate or spencerian.  I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder.   Just like art - some of it may look like it was done in 5 minutes with a paintball gun, while others look like they took months to carefully design and execute.   If you like it, you like it - no reason/explanation needed.   LOL

Here is another project that you can paint/gild/etc and give to a loved one for the holiday.  PS - if I have shrunk this down too small for what you need, shoot me an e-mail and i can forward an 8x10 version that is at a higher resolution.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Nikki! PS - Some portions of that scroll work were from commercially available, copyright free sources (it was not 100% hand drawn).   If you are interested, I have done a full alphabet of letters illuminated like this E, and they have all been picked up by shutterstock and are available through them if there is a particular letter that you would like to incorporate into an illuminated manuscript.

Thanks, Erica & Bianca!  Michael was indeed a very good instructor.  That was several years ago.  More recently, I took a class in gothic penmanship from Peter Noth.  He is very good as well.

Introductions / Hello from Kansas City

Hello from Kansas City.  This is Chip (aka kcsculptor) and I am a newbie to the Flourish Forum.  I was trained in Spencerian Script by Michael Sull here in KC several years ago, but am VERY rusty.  I will need a lot of practice to get my hand back in shape.  I am hoping to learn a lot from all of you!!

Keep scriptin'

Chip
