Copperplate
« on: February 23, 2015, 01:41:21 PM »
I've died and gone to heaven.  Just finished two day workshop with Eleanor Winters. (I'm a relative newbie to copperplate.)  Remarkable and unassuming - I love that in a person of accomplishment.

Arlen, where was your class?

She is my calligraphy hero!  I relied upon her book when learning Copperplate & it is an invaluable resource!!  I'm so glad to hear that she is nice in real life!  I'm super jealous that you have met her!!

The Philadelphia Calligraphers' Society,  http://philadelphiacalligraphers.org/, had her in town.  And Peter Thornton coming in March!  What a name dropper I am, huh?!  Yeah, Eleanor (first name basis...waddayathink, huh, huh?!) was well worth my 2 hour drive in the snow.  With a wonderful sense of the overall aesthetic she urged us to use for "white space", layout, etc., she is humble, yet a stickler for learning copperplate basics thoroughly --- variations and personal preferences come later.

Ahhh...maybe someday.

Arlen, you're a lucky dog!!!  I am SO jealous!   She's my calligraphy hero & I would so love to meet her!  Her book is one of my favorite possessions in the whole world & I owe my limited calligraphy success to her fine first book!!  I'm so glad to hear that she is nice!  You can name drop all day long!  You got to spend two whole days with her!!!  Lucky, lucky, lucky!!
