The detailing on the eagle is amazing. If I may ask, how much time did this take?

flummoxed, I have made up walnut ink from crystals and had them in the bottle for about a year and it's fine. No mould at all.

Thanks SueL!

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but you can add a little gouache to walnut ink if you want to darken it. And if you add gold gouache, you can get really beautiful effects - especially with broad edge. With pointed nibs, if the shades are really wide, the gold puddles in the middle of the stroke.

Thank you, gouche is locally available and I must give this a shot.

@OP, sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread!

Thanks Prasad and Andy!

I'm waiting for my Walnut crystals and oblique holder to arrive from France. My friend has decided to take a detour before coming to my city! So I guess the wait will be longer.

Until then I will make do with FP ink and Gum Arabic. I just started my daily practice with Erica's tutorials here and it has been fun.

Prasad, so far, I've only created lighter shades with the crystals as it is harder to get them here.

I have been using fountain pen ink and adding some Gum Arabic into it (far easier to buy in India and cheaper for someone like me for the purposes of practicing). Prasad shared some of the Walnut ink crystals and I have since then bought some (which are yet to reach me) as I loved how well they worked!

A couple of quick questions,
- I mainly add the Gum Arabic to the ink to prepare small portions as and when I need them as I am not sure about storing it. Have any of you stored this mixture for more than a 3 days? Has it been fine to use?
- Is it fine to store the ink crystals concoction/ink for a couple of months or is it better to prepare them as and when needed?

PS: I still haven't run out of ink crystals you shared Prasad.

Beautful, the tiger and peacock with the flourishes was stunning. Using the calm graceful stroke a.k.a the flourish to create a fearsome tiger was wonderful to see!

Your progress is amazing! Now I need to get cracking on practicing myself.

Thank you everyone!

@Prasad, No problem at all, let me know when you are in town as I still owe that beer!

Greetings all the way from India. I've been lurking on this forum for a while after being told about the lovely people and the resources available by a fellow member. I have only started recently and would love to learn more from all of you here.

I've attached a couple of pictures to show where I stand currently, the inventory list is from a few months ago and the review of the pen is a few weeks ago.

Beautiful Ken, your post explaining the method by which you wrote this script with the oblique is a reminder of the prep work behind the finished product.

Sorry about reviving an old thread though!

I was looking to buy a book here in India for myself as I wanted something moret han the online guides and books I was using and this thread was a wonderful resource. The comparison of the lettering based on the two books was just the thing I needed.

Thank you!
