My favorite penman in the world, John DeCollibus is also a lefty and holds it in a particular way:

Watching him write makes wish I was a lefty!

Wow! I am so amazed at how he writes beautifully with a RH oblique. Thank you so much for sharing!

Hi ate Star! I am a lefty, too. I also noticed that I need to move the paper at a certain angle to write copperplate. I have not yet tried an oblique, so I posted for advice.

How were your first experience with a right-hand oblique? I am a bit nervous in using one, but I would really like to try!

It is a month since I started studying calligraphy. As I review my progress on copperplate, I notice that the angle of the letters are different, maybe because I use a straight holder since I have no oblique holders as of now.

I have seen a similar topic here about a video of Sir Paul Antonio writing Copperplate using a straight holder (I just cannot remember what thread it is in). I just want to ask if there are members here who also write Copperplate using a straight holder, and is it necessary that I use an oblique holder in writing Copperplate? Thanks!

Hello Ailah! Thank you. Were you also one of the attendees in Kat's pointed pen workshop earlier? :)

Oh, no, I'm not. I haven't attended any workshops yet. But I am interested, though. I cannot afford to go into workshops as of now. :)

Just changed my IG account from @sallyfoutz to @sarahpearlstudio .  it was nerve wracking to change it from personal to business because now I feel the pressure of posting worthy photos, but I'm excited at the same time for this adventure!! ;D

ate Sally!!! Let me reiterate that the envelopes you posted on instagram are awesome! Did you buy them or D.I.Y.-ed them? Thanks!

The very late train hopper is here! My interest for calligraphy was mainly because of ate Gail's (the_md_writes on instagram) Copperplate tutorials and videos. And yes, I am also guilty of not studying letterforms when I first started. Then I realized that I should put time and effort on studying letter forms. Now, I am studying Copperplate diligently every night. :)

Word of the Day / Re: Saudade
« on: March 10, 2015, 10:56:07 AM »
Thanks for resurrecting this thread!!! I lived in Portugal for over a year and when I came home, this was the word I missed the most--there just isn't an English equivalent. You could say I have saudades for saudade... :)

I still find myself saying this word frequently in my head and that was almost 20 years ago...such a lovely word. I just spent the last 20 minutes writing it over and over....:)

No problemo, ate Sarah! I am glad that a simple post made you revive good memories with the word. :)

Wow. I am so overwhelmed at the post. As a newbie, I also like how you did the lettering. But the notes itself made me confused. But then, after reading the whole post, it made me realize that everyone started with somewhere.

Now I am doing practice on my practice pad (a day per page), and stick quotes and words I have written somewhere I always see it, so that I can study and criticize my work more. Thank you so much, ate Erica! :)

@theailahkathrina That's great to hear! If there is anything else you need help with...I am more than happy to share what I have learnt along the way :)

Thank you so much! This is one eye opener, really! I was so afraid to buy an oblique pen at first, but through this post I am now enlightened. Will definitely ask for more tips. Thanks again!  :)

I haven't read the book yet, but I think it is a good one! Will try to search quotes from it and post it too. I am so excited to post my work here! :)
