@K-2 - it’s like a handcrafted Mexican tile. You’re so versatile.

@K-2 - I like the orrery! It reminds me of Dumbledore’s study. The background color is very lovely.

@Lucie Y - I briefly tried to learn Foundational this summer but decided I needed to get back to practicing Italic again first. I’m so impressed with people who know many hands.

@Lucie Y and @K-2 - Nice work!

I’ve been trying to learn Spencerian this year and am at the minnow stage. (Does anyone remember that from swimming lessons?) 😂 I learned to play around with decorative borders from watching Heather Held videos.

@Erica McPhee I’m glad you said that. I saw a lot of work in the class that looked perfect to me. Maybe it’s because there are students of all levels in the classes and he doesn’t want beginners to get discouraged. Some of the people didn’t need the class at all, they were already so skilled. I usually didn’t know what to critique so stayed silent.

I’m a hobbyist calligrapher but absolutely have struggles with perfectionism. I’ve only taken one class, Engrosser’s Script, with David Grimes. He always emphasized that there’s no such thing as perfection in calligraphy. If we commented on someone else’s work saying “It’s perfect!” He would kindly remind us not to use that word in the context of calligraphy. So now I try not to use the word.
I am quite critical of my own work even though it only matters to me. We all have different levels of what we think of as good work. How we handle our mistakes and failures is personal. You’ll learn what’s acceptable for you.
 It’s nice to hang on to a few beginner samples so that as you improve you can see how far you’ve come. It’s also nice to throw “garbage” in the recycling bin and start again.

@tiffany.c.a - cool idea and your page flows very nicely. Love the spider plant - I have some in my yard.

@K-2  - That toad is too cute. Autumn Forest was the perfect ink to use to capture the coloring of a toad. I’ve never tried that ink but I love some shimmer.
@Lucie Y - Very elegant

I had a very ugly writing day. I’m dealing with an ailing kitty and it’s hard to think about anything else.

@K-2 - writing that large is very challenging - at least for me. I really like decorative capitals but have yet to try. I was looking at Inktober 2022 posts and saw the knot work dog you made. He was delightful!

This is amazing. The amount of work to write a book of this size blows my mind. I don’t know much about medieval manuscripts but I enjoy learning about them. I love the combination of the disciplined writing and the imaginative the imaginative creatures and scenes. Thanks for posting and thanks @K-2 for the interesting details.

Such beautiful work! I was admiring the art on his website and during covid he painted a character in an illumination wearing a mask and holding toilet paper. Thanks for sharing.
